Me either. Looked it up and they didn't use "Jesus Christ is here!" or any verses that mentioned Jesus or God

I thought god was everywhere, always, in everything

let's apply this same level of obsessive diligence to getting rid of the god-damn fucking military-grade guns in civilian hands 1st, then we'll promise to get back to song lyrics

I'm not really sure what to think about that. I'm not a religious person, so it doesn't really bother me, but why not just choose a different song if mentioning Christ gives you the creeps? Then again, that's hardly the important point. I don't know. Bigger fish to fry and all.

good point. the song is unquestionably about Christ ffs. Either leave it whole or pick a different song.

The war on Christmas is real. I'm sorry, the war on Xmas.

I'm not surprised Tomato Pie noticed it. It's the sort of petty nonsense that the right are always so fake outraged about. I'll instead think of the 20 innocent children who were gunned down by a madman with a fucking assault rifle.

Yeah, intellectual property issues are a joke.

Edit: To expand on this a bit, I have the same issue with this as I do with Congress adding "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. So, this isn't a War on Christmas thing to me.

That's exactly it. The annoying part was that, even when (properly) attempting a sensitive reaction to a terrible event, the PC police invade and excise the offending lyrics.

I'm a Christian. I don't mind a bit that they excised some lyric of Silent Night to convey a particular message that didn't have anything to do with The Birth of Christ but rather to honor the memories of some little children who were murdered in a horrible event.

No problem with it at all.

My feeling as well, though coming from a different religious perspective. Silent Night as written is a joyful song, concluding as it does with an announcement of the birth of Christ. Certainly the song was meant to be one of reassurance, but I think it's too soon for us to let go of the resonance and awful meaning of "silence" here, and that needed to be the focus also.

Maybe there's another song out there that would have conveyed this as well. None come to mind, though.

not to be totally insensitive and please correct me, but are all of these faiths in this interfaith ceremony actually representative of the victims? I have never heard of some of these faiths.

Fwiw, after watching the Silent Night rendition, I don't have as much of an issue with it. They didn't totally take out the religious meaning (e.g. still described as a "virgin" mother), so it doesn't "mutilate" the song in IP terms.
