There was apparently a massive solar flare because the Aurora is going crazy right now. Hope it clears off so I can chase tonight.

two things:

One the CMB was debunked :( :(

Two: This is amazing

so does this mean that we just moved a step back in understanding the creation of the universe?

we technically moved forward since now we can discount a wrong theory, but this will be a nightmare for people who used the CMB in their work trying to understand the beginning of the universe.

What's your source debunking CMB?

Cosmic microwave background I'm guessing. Still can't find anything on it being debunked. Feel like that'd be pretty big news

Okay, after reading that I think I understand. It's not the cosmic microwave background that's debunked, but the claim that BICEP2 had detected gravitational waves consistent with the inflation model. The paper linked points to polarized dust from within the Milky Way to be the source of the wave-like patterns.

Sorry, that's what I meant. The claim they had discovered direct evidence was debunked.

It's definitely interesting, but it's too early to start planning a trip to Alpha Centauri. They've moved from a single test with positive results in a fixed orientation in atmosphere to multiple teams getting positive results testing the device in multiple orientations while under vacuum. It's exciting news, but the results have yet to be peer reviewed and other possible explanations still need to be ruled out. I believe there is more testing to be done with an interferometer to try and detect if there is any measurable warping of spacetime. There's a pretty good discussion going on over at NASASpaceflight.com
