kurkihiudsna just said that if the phillies win the WS, this will be the greatest pitching season ever

There's a line Rich Dubee uses about Roy Halladay.

He uses it a lot, but today it seems more appropriate than ever.

"The only time I'd worry about Roy Halladay," the Phillies pitching coach likes to say, "is if he was stuck in traffic."

G-Cobb hilariously suggesting that the Phillies made a mistake starting the series with a no-hitter. He's so terrible, even by WIP standards.

I think if you were to award a top 20 for the best pitching performances ever, Doc's two no-hitters this season would be in there and I'd expect one to be in the top 5.

all of his articles during last year's postseason were the same way. like they cranked out an unfinished product and then updated it after an hour

Roy Halladay: Hall-of-Famer if he retired tomorrow? I say yes, and not really that close.

I want to know who's brilliant idea it was to put him on the schedule the night of a Phillies playoff game. My god. I turned WIP on and off in record time.

Franzke's voice just has this vibrato to it that nails it. It's a nervous-sounding vibrato, like he's shaking as he's broadcasting. Which is perfect, naturally, because it's how all of us feel.

This is the best non-clinching game in Phils history. It's in my personal top five games (which pretty much just dates back to September 1993).
no offense but you are everything that's wrong with America

"That was real difficult right there, with a no-hitter going," the soft-spoken catcher from Panama would say later, still heaving sighs of relief that it all worked out. "If I don't make that play, oh my God, I'm gonna feel bad."

God I love Chooch

Stark didn't disappoint after all

I love that they gave out shots after the no no.

Stark plagiarizes me. Stark:

Jayson Stark wrote:He headed for the mound Wednesday at Citizens Bank Park to do something he'd waited a lifetime for.

He hadn't merely thought about this, hadn't merely dreamed about this, for just about ever. He'd forced himself to rewrite the story of his whole career.

He asked the only team he'd ever pitched for, the Blue Jays, to trade him last winter. Asked specifically to be traded to this team in Philadelphia, for a chance to live out this day.

Left millions of dollars on the table to make it happen.

Me:

mozartpc27 wrote:Roy Halladay is going to be a machine in Game 1, regardless of opponent. He has waited his whole life for this. He left millions of dollars on the table to sign a contract extension with the Phillies in order to make this moment possible.

He's going to eat still-beating hearts. You watch.

Difference: I wrote mine on Sunday!

I am going to violate every principle I have ever lived my life by and say that I can't wait for Halladay to Johnny VanDermeer the Giants.

Still reeling from this performance. Watching the replay on MLB Network now.
You can pretty much sum this up with the Votto at bat when Votto kept calling time. Roy was locked in like no one else before him.

A thought before I head for bed: I don't think I've ever seen a game where I anticipated a no-hitter in the sixth inning. Normally, I wonder when a guy will blow it. With this game, I kind of expected it to happen. It was surreal.

Nah, I was upstairs. I got there as Halladay got his hit since I had class until 5. Luckily, I have At-Bat on my phone so I didn't miss anything and got to listen to Franzke and LA for a bit.

After Exxon's PO in the 3rd/4th I started to believe in the perfecto. Too bad Bruce was a d-bag and didn't bite on those pitches.
