did this game get the Rev Beez-niz?

Yup.

This is most pleasing news

How's this for something Halladay could write w/his sig?

"Rev Beez was here to see it happen? F'in A! Your friend, Roy"

ok, maybe not
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Oh crap, I dvr'd the repeat of the game on TCN, not HD. Oh well, I still have it and will burn it to DVD. My Dad goes to bed early these days so he'll enjoy it.

I was at a friend's BBQ last night and didn't hear until after the game was done. I think I saw that they're replaying the game on MOnday at 8pm.

When Jim Bunning threw his perfect game, it was the first perfect game in the National League in 86 years I believe (that's right, the previous one had been thrown in the 1870s).

Since 1995, here are some perfect games I can think of off the top of my head: Braden, Burhle, Halladay, R. Johnson, David Cone, David Wells. What is going on?

So, Roy Halladay will get his shot at Johnny Van Der Meer on Friday in Philadelphia against the Padres. That will be exciting.

A lot of #Phillies players just arriving to park; Halladay arriving back at his locker soaked in sweat after workout.

Saw this on baseballthinkfactory...

Of the 20 perfect games in MLB history, NINE have been thrown during Jamie Moyer's career.

* Halladay's start is the 9th best since 1991 in terms of Game Score (GS of 98)
* Of the 14 perfect games that B-R has box scores for, Halladay's ranks tied for 3rd in GS at 98. Koufax (101) and Randall Johnson (100) are ahead of him
* The 115 pitches was the 4th most for any perfect game on record. Wells, Johnson, and Buehrle all threw a few more.

There have already been 3 no hitters this season. Last season in which there were more than 3 was 1991, with 5 :!:

Ryan, Greene, El Presidente, Alvarez and Sabrahagen.

Wouldn't shock me if there was another 1 this year.

And to follow that up, in 1990 there were 6 no hitters, meaning 11 in a 2 year span. thats kind of crazy

Of course it wouldn't be shocking. Halladay gets a bunch more starts.

I'm happy this game was on a Saturday when the game wasn't fucking blacked out. I got to watch the whole thing beginning to end, which seems rare for a Saturday. And I'm happy Roy didn't break his hand giving celebratory high fives.

I think the best explanation for the increase in perfect games is better defense.

That sounds spot on. The increase in games played is also a factor that sometimes gets overlooked when these "trends" are spotted. And of course there are all sorts of other changes in the way the game is played that can get thrown into the mix.

But I think you're right that the fewer balls rolling under or clanking off gloves (or just plain being caught up to) is the biggest, due to changes in equipment, athleticism and field conditions.

I think the increase in games played is a bigger factor. There are 2430 games per major league season today. For 50+ years prior to the 1961 season there were barely half that, at 1232.

Strikeouts have increased every decade since baseball's beginnings. More Ks = less BABIP. Just ax Matt S.

All these things add up I guess.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can
