Absolutely, since apparently the Dodgers got Sherrill specifically to match up with the Phillies.

For some reason I am put in mind, and this is not to pick on you by any means jersey, of the old Brian Mitchell radio show that used to be on WIP back when he played for the Eagles. I remember one night he was talking about a forthcoming game with the Giants, probably in 2002 - I am thinking it was this game, and apparently the Giants players had been doing a lot of talking in the media about how they felt they were a great defense and a great team that was being overlooked. I'll never forget this, and I wish I had a tape of it because Mitchell was so wonderful in the way he expressed it, but he said something like this: "Yeah, they keep talking about how great they are and what a great defense they have. Yeah, keep talking... you ain't played us yet."

Yeah, George Sherrill is so great against lefties, yeah he shuts them down, he presents such a terrible match-up problem.

Keep talking... he ain't pitched against us until now. Our lefties are different from everybody else's lefties.

Well, what are the stats on teams that win game 1 of playoff serieses? I am having a hard time finding it, but I know the results are skewed heavily in favor of game 1 winners. Obviously, the Phillies history on this is just a subset of the larger truth.

Y'all scored 17 pts against us then lost the return game when trying to lock up HFA in December.

Then the Bucs fucked up your day. Not sure that's the best example.

Also, go Phillies.

Watched the whole game from Capitol Lounge in DC. Here's what happened:

No game sound, jukebox. When Lidge came in, Rod Stewart was on. Leadoff baserunner. Then, Aerosmith. Double play.

Axiom = less Rod, more rock.

I may have rose colored glasses, but I don't think that Cole is the problem that some are hinting at. Apparently it's a frequent topic on local sports radio too- at least that's what my buddy was telling me tonight. The exact term he used was "prima donna".

But I'm a little wiser since the Schilling Era. Notice when Cole came out of the game tonight- the bench greeted him rather nicely. When Curt would come out, he would be ignored and I thought it was just because his teammates knew he was pissed and wanted to give him his space. Little did I know.

I hope I'm right.

Hamels' reaction toward Utley was extremely unprofessional, and then he showed up Utley by teeing one up for Manny.

Yeah, that didn't end up turning out too well, but the point wasn't so much about the Eagles as it was about Brian Mitchell' swagger, what he said, how he said it, and how it applies to the We-got-George-Sherrill-just-for-the-Phillies-and-he's supposed-to-scare-them Dodgers.

Missed the first 3. Watched the rest at the brew pub on campus. No sound, relegated to a side tv. I still enjoyed myself.

Hamels fifth inning tonight was an abortion and an abomination, just like the Catholic Church says.

If I am doing my math correctly if the Phillies play just above .500 ball for the rest season they will be repeat WFC's. I could be wrong on that but it is an interestingly little thing to investigate for the nerds.
Do it again!
