His FIP is 3.65. His K/9 is very good, his K/BB is decent, his H/9 is not good but does that even get looked at anymore?

Here's my question, Flop, it seems like a baseball guy would say "Yeah, of course that happened, he's a space cadet who will always have a worse ERA than his periphs indicate". Is that part true, or is analysis more deep than that? Second, is there any reason to think that maybe a good prospect should NOT have that type of discrepancy? Third, let's say he finishes relatively strong and ends up with a 4.4 or 4.5 ERA and the same peripherals, where is his prospect status?

Perception tends to trump reality when it comes to prospects.

Im sure most teams are hesitant on Carrasco because of his struggles. He's worth more to us than he is in a trade.

I'd have no problem with Carrasco as our #5 next season. If he helps make a trade happen, that's great but he won't be a cornerstone for a deal IMO and he'll probably provide bigger dividends for us long term than what he helps us get in a trade. Gavin Floyd was doing the same thing as CC at the same age and the same level and we ended up trading him in a bad deal. Let's learn from that.

I am of the mind that this is just not going to happen. The Jays want too much of everything. The Phillies might realize that they have actually rehabbed there farm system from dump status, and making a go for broke move starts to put the farm back into question if they were to bow to a silly deal. In this mindset I think that the only real possibility is that he goes to the Red Sox.

My offer is Taylor, Carpenter, Marson and one of Savery/Flande/Stutes.

Marson and Carpenter could immediately be on the Jays roster and Taylor a possible September call up.

The Marlins, Braves and Mets are not helping the Jays' efforts to land some good players in return for Roy Halladay. As the Phillies begin to run away with the NL East -- their lead is now up to six games -- their sense of urgency to add Halladay will diminish. Philadelphia could certainly use Halladay in 2009 and 2010, but their increasing lead in the NL East allows the Phillies' executives more room for patience in the negotiations with Toronto. We saw the Brewers make an aggressive move for CC Sabathia last summer, and Milwaukee would not have made the playoffs without him. This is not the case with the Phillies, who appear on their way to making the playoffs with or without Halladay -- and this might make them less inclined to give up a package that includes Kyle Drabek and others.

Hmmm. I hope the Phillies don't get too cocky here. This is about being the Best Team in Baseball (TM), not necessarily winning the division.

My euphoria for winning the division for the first time in over a decade was quickly tempered by the sweep by Colorado. Once you've had a WFC, the playoffs just seems pedestrian.

I didn't read that article as though Amaro doesn't believe we need Halladay; just that he can pretend he doesn't need him THAT bad when negotiating with the Jays.

If Monty was calling the shots, getting into the playoffs, averaging 101% attendance would be good enough. Ruben wants to repeat.

No kidding. On the one hand, inheriting a championship team means Rube has a great club to work with; on the other, there's nowhere to go but down.

And two weeks later they'll call us back when they realize that that's the best offer they've gotten.

True, but you still have to enjoy it. If/when they win the division, it'll only be the second time in franchise history that they made the playoffs in 3 consecutive years...

Jeez. Remember when we went decades without winning anything?
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Part of me wouldn't mind it if the Phillies won the pennant this year but the WFC. Then they would probably give out a replica blue 2009 flag on opening day, and I'd have one of each color :)

But seriously, I want two more WFCs

Any time the team wins the division, though, you have to consider that a success.
