I'd say that wasn't the case given that all of these guys have worked at tracks before. Clearly it wasn't malicious, which is all that matters here, but there was obviously something different about it to make them think that's what it was.

I'm sure a bunch of people with bad intentions will go on about this being a false flag or whatever, but it seems pretty clearly to be an honest mix-up, and we can just be happy that someone wasn't racist and shitty enough to put a noose in the only black driver's garage.

Maybe I’m missing something

Was it whoever made the assumption that it was a noose 1st time in a racing garage? If that’s the common way rope is used to shut the doors they shouldn’t have noticed anything different

Crappy picture but it looks more like a noose than any knot I'd tie to pull a door down.

Pretty much any place that has a high garage door like this will have a rope tied to it or else you'd have no way of closing the door again without a ladder or portable stairs. I would think every garage at every racetrack has these, not just Talladega, so the fact that someone just noticed this a few days ago is amazing, and now you gotta question the person that originally reported it.

For what it's worth, I had the same type of tie on my garage door growing up. Was looped like that to grip.

There was a noose that went unnoticed. I mean, that alone says something about the NASCAR culture or the culture at that track that no one thought twice about it.

NASCAR did good in how it handled this.

I get that it’s a common thing, I don’t get how someone that’s been around racing mistaken that for a noose, Or if it was actually someone new to a track garage get told what it was by someone who knew what the rope was for before this became public, also why didn’t NASCAR quickly come out and explain the mix up before the FBI had to come in and investigate

Yeah, I don't think the loop is unusual as a handle. Above the loop it appears like a number of turns (similar to a noose) to me. Again, crappy picture so hard to say anything definitive.

It could be that it was tied similar to a noose but also not directed at Bubba Wallace since it's been there for a year.

Bubba defending saying it was "a straight-up noose".

So is the thought at this point that while it wasn't anything targeted at Wallace, the presence of a noose-like rope in general (presumably for at least a year and regardless of its function) is the issue at hand? (genuinely asking)

That's where I'm at.

Caught part of Wallace live on the Today show. He stated that is was the rope attached as a door pull but also purposely shaped as a noose.

If this was in every garage NASCAR itself probably wouldn't have alerted the FBI

The UPS plant that my mom runs must be a hanging gallow. There is "nooses" everywhere. It isn't a freaking noose and it's why nobody even bothered to mention it. You don't hang a noose on a garage door. A noose is designed to constrict. This is obviously a hand loop. Sometimes they use knot bottoms. Someone overreacted then Nascar basically had to overreact due to the backlash they would have received had they not. The media still calling it a noose is pretty fucked up.

Right. My undetstanding of noose is a specific type of knot. There are lots of ways to tie a loop in a rope. But its pretty tough to confuse a bowline with a noose.
