That team wouldn’t have nearly as much “star power” as our current roster, but it would be good and probably better than why we’ve got. Would’ve been nice if Ed Wade were in charge and stood pat everywhere.

Begs the question of whether they trade up for Thybulle when they already have Bridges, too. Also would love to have seen Paschall in the rotation at the 4 on that roster.

Jamie made the right point a few pages back....they had to spend the money this year. With Ben’s extension coming, they were always going to be capped out for the foreseeable future after last offseason. Yes, Horford is overpaid, but that’s really Josh Harris’ problem and mostly irrelevant from a team construction standpoint and why it’s idiotic to trade things with him just to get rid of him. They are still well over the cap even if Al disappeared tomorrow

Coming out of our first playoff stint, we needed a two way wing, a couple of shooters, a point guard to run the half-court offense, and a backup big. The only guy closer to the end of his career than the beginning was Redick (it’s not easy to replace an automatic three pointer, but he still had enough mileage to go and he’s not good enough to warrant moving up your timeline for him). We gave away Richaun (who grew into a decent NBA big) and TLC (who is looking like a two way wing), traded Shamet (who was a good shooter while he was here and may have ended up growing into the Redick role), gave up on/got nothing substantive for Fultz (who still isn’t great, but is looking like a decent third guard at least), traded the Bridges pick for a guy that has had a rough go of it so far. We also got good progression from Furk and Shake.

If we just didn’t do any of that and didn’t ship out anyone else our roster now would be:

They would also have had max salary cap space last summer to add to that team. That's why Brand's failure cannot be overstated. Not only did he give up the assets he did for Butler and Harris, he also gave up the team's max cap space. And then he chose Horford over, e.g., Brogdon, for inexplicable reasons.

We did fail to beat the eventual champs last year due to having no playable bigs when Embiid was on the bench. Adding a big was good, but using all cap space on one was not good. Not to mention Nerlens has been a good backup in OKC, but he had been traded prior to those first playoffs and wouldn't have accepted that role here (don't forget he passed on a $70m contract in Dallas).

Yea, I'm not a proponent of attaching assets to dump anyone or even amnestying anyone if it's an option.

You mean Horford can’t guard Jaylen Brown? Shocking to literally maybe one person

Tame work for Embiid so far. Might be part of a strategy to keep him fresher over the haul

We may not have a good defensive scheme but at least we have a poor offensive plan.
