If signing bonus allotment = 5,444,200

1st Round: Mick Abel 4.075 million (slot 3,885,800)
3rd Round: Casey Martin 1.3 million (slot 698,000)
4th Round: Carson Ragsdale 225,000 (slot 497,500)
5th Round: Baron Radcliff 100,000 (slot 371,600)

That means they spent 5.7 million on a 5.44 allocation, so they were 255,800 or 4.7% over.

So just a 75% penalty on the 256K, but no draft pick forfeitures.

Did I get that right?

Even if not, I guarantee you the Phillies didn't go more than 5% over their allotment, so 1.3 mil is probably right.

No but since it is pretty much exactly what they can do without going over the 5% tax area, it feels like a good number to me. But I'll be happier when that signing actually gets announced.

@SKaneNBCS
On our ‘Phillies Return to Play’ show, @JSalisburyNBCS said the Phillies are willing to pay J.T. Realmuto more than $23M per year over a 4-6 year contract. I’d think that type of offer would lead to an agreement. Transaction freeze ends Friday. Deal could come together quickly.

23 AAV would match Mauer for the highest for a catcher. I'd be pretty nervous about anything beyond 4 years even with the DH.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

i'm totally in on this esp with NL DH. Obviously prefer it be 4 maybe 5 max but i like having one of our position players being one of the best at his position both offensively and defensively.

5-125 seems reasonable all around for JT - maybe partial guarantee year 5 with vesting based on games played in year 4

Remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth when Ryan Howard was given the exact same deal at the outset of his age 30 season (April 2010)?

I know, 10 years ago, bigger frame, defensive liability, probably over market...

But my oh my it's funny how time is and what seems like a catastrophic amount of money 10 years later seemss "reasonable."

He follows a guy who ran as the Democratic candidate in 2016 against John Boozman for one of Arkansas's Senate seats so maybe not?
