Watching empty-stadium silent baseball is pretty annoying (even thought it is, at least, baseball). In normal circumstances I'd be pretty opposed to piped-in crowd noise, but I think it would actually be an improvement during this season. Hire some person who's pretty sharp, give him/her some sensitive controls, and pipe in crowd noise, crescendos when something good happens, sustained applause for Phillies' scores, etc. Some video-game whiz could make it sound like a real game...

It's the only thing I can hear during most broadcasts anyway

I imagine we'll hear some pretty interesting stuff with no crowds in the stands.

Paul was very good at it. Alex Carr runs it now and is just way too optimistic and overly earnest as you said.

Granted the players wouldn’t like the accommodations and I think the owners still dream of having some fans show up or something, but playing at some really small stadium, like a local college or low A ball one would make it kinda campy and fun too if they use some of your ideas. The vastness of playing in an empty mlb stadium is rather creepy.

Medlar Field would be a perfect venue for a few games I think. Put 1000 people if possible throughout the park. Plus I could go in so that finalizes it.

I feel like they could open up stadiums and just limit the number of people. Spread them out. Instead of 100 seats in a section, maybe only 15-20. Allow people to bring in food and drink. Concessions and games would be closed. Allow only X number of people in the bathroom at once. 6 feet apart when coming into the ballpark and everyone must go to their seats. Spread people out in the parking lots. I don't think that's any more dangerous than the grocery store where you end up touching stuff that other people have just touched.

I think the problem is policing it and the potential for litigation. I would imagine MLB looked into it and got a big thumbs down from their insurance underwriter(s).

Enforcing it is a big problem, and another problem is that you'd need to fully staff the stadium to enforce it even though you'd have a fraction of the revenue coming in. And the biggest thing to me is that anyone who's ever left a stadium after a game can attest that there's no social distancing happening when everyone is trying to get to the lots and get out of that complex.

Yeh, I guess so. It's a shame there's no way around that. If they did it right, I might go to a game. That's a big IF, of course.

Saw this on the Phils' site:

The Phillies have experimented with manufactured crowd noise, although it is unclear how or if they will implement it. They are planning to offer fans the opportunity to create cardboard cutouts of themselves, which would be placed in the stands.

I guarantee there's going to be some really funny cutouts throughout the season. I'm looking forward to it. Huge potential.
