Making money. Lots and lots of money.

Manfred is by far the sloppiest of the major commissioners when it comes to saying the quiet parts out loud. I have my critiques about all of the major commissioners, but generally all of the other ones deify their particular sport almost to a fault. Manfred, on the other hand, talks about the sport like he's overseeing 30 Burger Kings and analyzing their P&L's above all else.
It's hard not to see his leadership as just more of the general trend of the sport where maximizing profitability is priority #1 with no close second. And while I do think ultimately the Astros situation and the league's handling of it will blow over a bit when the actual games start, baseball isn't exactly a sport that can afford to have existing fans tuning out in frustration.

Not sure this blows over very quickly. I dont think Manfred and the mlb realize how bad things are right now and that is a problem.

This is not a defense of the Astros or how MLB handled things.

Hot taek. I don’t like Manfred and think he’s a boob but it will take a lot more than him to ruin baseball.

Hmmm, I don't think the outrage is fake, although they may not appreciate how difficult it would be to "opt-out" of a situation like that. Plenty of Astros players were bystanders to the scheme. But I don't think Tony Kemp is going to be drilled this season... Altuve, Bregman, and Springer are going to be very unpopular. Everyone already knows Bregman is kind of an ass, and now he's taken it to another level. This year is actually going to be fun, IMO, and the Astros will be a good draw on the road.
"I don’t know what (the league) is going to find, but in my opinion, it’s not anything close to what’s going on (in Houston), Kinsler said. “The Red Sox were just a very tight-knit group. When I was injected into that team in the middle of the season, it was a lot like the Rangers clubs I was on, where it was just a very tight-knit group and their system was flawless. They just had a very good system of relaying from second base to home plate. That was it. Honestly. We’ll see what happens with the commissioner’s report.”

Astros outfielder Josh Reddick just told reporters he has received death threats via social media — and that in one case someone wished cancer upon his children. Reddick said he’s not the only one in the Astros’ clubhouse who had received death threats, either.
