How is it shaping up exactly? With these additions, Cutch back, and the bullpen healthy this is a 90+ win team on paper.

I’m still not in love with the pitching. Need more

Bingo! They wouldn’t be in hot pursuit of Rendon if there was any truth to Gelb’s claim.

There's no way they're getting Rendon now IMO. Their lineup is set. They need another SP more than anything. And it seems like they're not in on Cole. Hopefully they get him but if not, I think they could pay someone to take Herrera or Robertson so they can sign another pitcher for around $10 million. I think the least likely scenario is them just spending $6 million.

I hope you're right, I don't really see the pitching and there's too much average on offense.

I just don't like moving Kingery off 2nd. I think he loses alot of value. Or if they have Segura play 3rd he is probably a bottom 10 third baseman.

If Wheeler pitches all season like he did in 2nd halves of ‘18 and ‘19, if Hoskins and Nola return to their ‘18 forms, and if the bullpen and Cutch stays healthy they should finish with a much better record than in ‘19. Whole lotta “ifs” but all of those scenarios are quite plausible.

I guess it's a glass half full/half empty thing. Yes, they need more starting pitching, but also yes the starting pitching was improved significantly.

Yeah there's definitely different ways to look at it. If you could tell me Arrieta was gonna be healthy the whole year I'd feel a lot better but I don't think anyone can expect that. They need to nail whoever the #5 is.

No shock but the Phillies are now out on Rendon after signing Didi.

Steaks: Heard Gregorius chose Phillies over Giants and Brewers. Playing for Girardi again was big factor in decision.

Segura has played second base before. That is likely landing spot for him with Kingery at third, but Phils will consider all options in spring training.

Didi had strange splits. Better away than home over the year. Dropped off at the plate during the second half of the year. I’m glad that it’s a one year deal. If he shows well, then he can be extended.
Still think that Klentak is going to pull off a trade or two. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bryant ends up here. Look for more SP as well.

I think the health of the bullpen is the big wild card for this team. Especially getting Seranthony and Morgan back.

gelb's latest article said the front office got "glowing reports" on seranthony, morgan and arano recently.

I actually like Didi. I thought he was going to have his breakout year last year before he got injured. If he's fully recovered, maybe that breakout can happen here.

My concern is with the IF as a whole. Unless Didi breaks out and Kingery is more like the guy before the all star break (.710 OPS after the break and it would have been much worse if not for a 2 week stretch in August) than after the break, the IF will be pretty mediocre. I'm also not convinced Kingery can even play 3B for a full season. I'm hoping there's a trade for Brant coming or they plan to break the bank for Rendon or Donaldson. That would allow them to move Kingery to CF, where I think his defense plays better, and turns Haseley into a 4th OFer. It also wouldn't hrut Haseley to get more ABs in AAA. It's ok to have some guys who don't get on base a lot, but we need more OBP guys than we have with the Kingery/Didi/Segura/Haseley configuration, IMO.

Will enough money come off the books next year that we can afford to go over this year and then come back under next year to avoid the worse penalties? That's the play, if we can make it.
