Article on the Good Phight mentioned this question: Worst player you've ever seen play? Maybe narrow it down to worst Phillies, and at at least have watched him play on tv, if not in person.

There’s Paul Abbott and then there’s everyone else.
Two days later I get a text back that says I'm a basketball player and a businessman, not a Thundercat.

I'd say Martinez is the first guy that came to mind for me. He was bad. If we're talking Phillies-only, Endy Chavez after we acquired him was like what, 2 for 25 pinch-hitting or something? I know he wasn't that bad before he got here, but he was horrific to watch.

A bunch of Shortstops, mainly backups, but amazingly Jeltzie started for three seasons. Some of these guys were decent in the field, but all were awful at thee plate. -- Terry Harmon, Stve Jeltz, Kim Batiste, Juan Bell, Desi Relaford... Batiste was probably the worst, and played four or five seasons for us. Michael Martinez is cut from the same cloth.

If we are talking Philly careers only (for otherwise good players), Lance Parrish in his two years in Philly was so bad with respect to the expectations we had as fans I think of him when anyone talks about the worst Phils. I know he doesn't look awful statistically in those years, but it was hard to watch him play.

I admit I didn't get it then and I don't get it now. He definitely wasn't as productive as he'd been with the Tigers, but he hit some home runs and was good defensively. Even somehow got named to the all star team one year. People were on him from the start, even though the Phillies were the one team to break from collusion and sign him to a "big" ($1 million a year!) free agent contract. You would have that that would have been a good thing in "blue collar" Philly, but instead people just seemed to resent him, and Giles for doing it.

Desi Relaford is the guy who comes to mind for me, sicne they kept on running him out there, and he was a boneheaded player as well as bad statistically. He did manage to put up a .351 OBP off a .215 BA in 2000 though, walking 75 times and striking out 71, so credit to him for that. Still added up to a 69 OPS+.

ryan howard started off his phillies career as the most electric player ever to wear the uniform. he was must see tv. but those last few years were the most painful to watch of any other phillies player that i can remember. a lot of these "bad" players quickly came and left or hung around in small dosages. howard couldn't run, field, throw and looked truly awful at the plate 75% of the time. if his phillies career were those last few years, unfortunately it would be him. luckily it wasn't, and other than this little question, i really hope never to remember him in this light ever again.

No hate for Adam Eaton?

Boasted a 6.10 ERA in 268 innings for the Phillies.

Even if Howard only played the last 5 years of his career, his career numbers still would have been way better than Mini Mart's. In fact, any one of those seasons was more productive than Mini Mart's whole career.

Yeah but what about the per dollar production. I'm not sure Mini Mart made a million dollars in his career.

Edit: Actually looks like he made 1.3 million due to a 600K payday from the Tigers.

ive only been a phillies phan since 2003 but hard to argue with paul abbott. smyly/vargas type acquisition but he looked, acted, and pitched like they picked up some random scrub off the street.

Say what you will about Puig, but on the final day of his suspension, he became a US citizen
