Wow, that is something. Next up they'll shorten the line up to 6 guys and use ghost runners as necessary

speaking of independent ball, if you're down on the waterfront today...

The Camden Riversharks and audience volunteers will take part in a home run derby on the waterfront. Fans can register for five swings as they hit off of the battleship’s deck

That is pretty cool.

I had a lot of fun following the patriots back in the day, I worked for commerce bank and we sponsored the stadium they played in and our branch was next to the ballpark. We had their accounts and all that and opened accounts for players if they wanted, since most weren't local. I got to know a bunch of the players, we were all mostly in our early 20's and we'd go out drinking after games. It was a lot of fun, they won the championship that year too.

Heh. I lived about a mile from the park between 2002 and 2007 and went to that Commerce branch often. Only went to a Patriots game once, though.

Speaking of independent ball AND the Patriots, the roster of the local indy team here - Bridgeport Bluefish - features an Abreu (Winston?), Tomo Ohka, and a journeyman hurler by the name of Dontrelle Willis.

Haven't been to a game this year, but they're playing a double-dip tomorrow vs the Patriots. Hope they let Willis bat
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Ollie Perez has a 2.83 ERA in 133 games since leaving the Mets. Thought that guy was finished.

We have lots of people on the board who like to write about baseball for free, right?

SABR Games Project

The SABR Baseball Games Project is a new initiative to research and write articles on major-league and Negro League regular, postseason, and All-Star Games. These game accounts will complement Retrosheet and Baseball-Reference box scores as well as BioProject essays on the players involved.

The articles are not intended to be mere play-by-play summaries, nor should they be first-person narratives. Rather the goal is to put each game in historical context — whether that history is of a particular player, team, season, or something even broader.

Articles should be concise, ranging from 500 words to a top end of 1,500 words. All guidelines currently in use for processing BioProject essays will apply to this initiative. The project is run by SABR's BioProject Committee.

The Works Network (Comcast 278) shows replays of the old Home Run Derby from the late 50s - early 60s on Saturday and Sunday Nights between 9-10. I DVRed the last couple weeks and getting caught up now, it's pretty neat to see these legends talk baseball
