The Mets and Rangers play today. Both teams have the exact same record. Not good news for the Rangers.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Yeh, I haven't thought of it. I've been hiking and exploring and stuff. Going to the Ride Festival in Telluride tomorrow and then to Moab.

$3,500 in 1918 is equivalent to $55,000 today

NOT BAD, GEORGE.

Phils should sign A.J. Pierzynski and John Buck for the rest of the season, both just released!

I wouldn't mind Pierzynski at the minimum. Oh wait, he's an asshat though.

Tracy McGrady was a starting pitcher in the Atlantic League All-Star Game despite never striking anyone out. He struck someone out....then retired

This is a smokescreen, he didn't want to face the next batter up, ExxonValdez.

Seeing this story about Tracy McGrady in the Atlantic league made me look up the Atlantic league and to see where sugarland is. I used to follow the somerset patriots, like 10 years ago, and back then all of the teams were basically within a 4 hour drive of NYC.

Through the years a number of teams have come and gone and moved around etc. But today, all of the teams are between southern Maryland and Bridgeport, ct except sugarland which is all the way down in Texas. I'm really curious about the logistics of this, how do they handle the travel? I can't imagine they are flying down there, and that would be a bitch of a bus ride.

Then I was looking at the Wikipedia page and saw that a few years ago, several teams moved from the Atlantic league to the can-am league. Well the can am league has four teams in it now, and they play 100 games. What kind of bullshit is that? Who wants to watch a minor league team play the same 3 teams over and over and over.

My takeaway here is that the independent minor leagues are cray cray.

this guy i follow on twitter for minor league hockey is also the beat writer for somerset. he posted some article yesterday on atlantic league rule changes to speed the game up. 6 warm up pitches between innings instead of 8. 3 mound visits per game excluding changes. holding up 4 fingers instead of throwing 4 balls for an int walk. ok. but my favorite is if the catcher gets a base hit he MUST leave the game for a courtesy runner so he can put his gear back on.
