I had an alcoholic degenerate American Legion coach who started my buddy in both games of a doubleheader on a 95 degree day. Think he had CGs in both games

He also showed up to a game limping and using a fungo bat as a crutch. When asked by a player what happened, he said "hurt myself fucking your mom." The kid, who was about 14, then went to the payphone crying and called his mom. No word on whether she confirmed the story

They didn't even save 750K. They have to replace him with somebody and the minimum salary is 500K, so 375K the rest of the season.

They cut Farnsworth to save what David Wright makes in 3 games.

Wasn't there some DIII college kid who threw a ton of innings or pitches in one of his last college games so his team could win? The guy knew he wasn't going to be a pro and was starting an accounting job a few weeks after graduation. I guess the biggest difference is a 22 year old making that choice vs an 18 year old kid.

If he never pitches again, its unlikely he'll injure his arm in the future. Also, not just never an mlb pitcher, never a pro, not a minor leaguer, independent leaguer or college pitcher.

the coach still probably should have taken him out, but if there were ever an acceptable time to let a kid throw almost 200 pitches it'd be then. also, as the deadspin article points out, we don't know exactly what causes arm problems. it could be the number of pitches, it could be the frequency during a game, it could be throwing year round. there's still not a lot conclusive about it.
