TRISTAN H. COCKCROFT: Very bad indeed. This is more an explanation than an excuse for the umpire, but I'd imagine a lot of those guys listen for the ball-in-the-glove sound and match it to the foot on the bag. If you catch the ball with your bare hand, well, might not be the same sound,. Just a guess, sure, but maybe that was part of it, hard to see the foot hitting the bag AND the ball in the hand on a play that close. Bad call, though, and wrong.

The last two games are why MLB needs instant replay. Millions (alright, thousands) of fans all see that the calls are wrong. What does THAT do for the "integrity of the game?"
