Does that stat mean that his ptches are really hard to read out of his hand? Or does it mean nothing. When they said that it made me wonder if he has a larger than normal pct. of called strike 3s every year and what it means.
Maybe dopes like me are these guys' audience because I thought it was interesting -- although it doesn't mean Blanton is really good or anything.

i'm sure that the guys who are last in the league in that percentage are hamels, santana, sabathia, peavy, etc. everybody who can pitch 197.2 innings can get 57 called third strikes. the fact that he only got 54 swinging/foul tipped third strikes in nearly 200 innings is indicative that he needs a pitch that hitters swing and miss at if he wants to be an above average pitcher.
