We should get a ruling from the chipless chocolate chip cookie girl from many years ago.

and I'm pretty sure dropping a cookie into a bathroom much less dropping it into the trash can would decrease its value by more than 25%

bynum is like yogurt thats been sittin in the fridge for about a month. you check out the label and notice you're right around the expiration date, peel the top off and it doesnt smell so bad, but it looks all watery and the texture has deteriorated. The number 1 rule in life is to never chance it with yogurt, but the thing is, you're really fucking hungry right now.

I think Levin's issue is he's WAY too high on Hinkie. The "eww, numbers" lunatic fringe is one extreme, and he's on the other extreme of "everything will solve itself now that our new numbers-embracing messiah has arrived."

I never wanted the Sixers to re-sign Bynum just so they wouldn't make another stupid signing in its place. I want them to re-sign Bynum because I think it provides them their best chance of competing both short and long term. Giving Hinkie a clean slate is great, except they're not doing anything close to that with or without Bynum. The Rockets' specialty over the years has been collecting low cost, high reward assets, using the draft and undervalued free agents. That's something they can do with or without Bynum. It's exactly what the Rockets did while they had Yao's salary on the books and he wasn't playing.

I don't want them to max him out or anything, but if they can get him at a reasonable deal (3/45), I think it's certainly a risk worth taking.

The upside of a Bynum deal at 3/45 is tremendous. Not sure how realistic that is though.

His max from any team that isn't the Sixers is 4/80. I don't see any team maxing him out, even the desperate ones.

I also don't see any team wanting to tie up one-third of its cap for any length of time longer than one year on a guy who, when the season starts, will have not played a minute of basketball in 18 months.

The question is what would Bynum prefer. Would he rather have a larger sum of guaranteed money up front in case he really is done, or does he have enough confidence in his health to take a one or two year value-builder in hopes of cashing in on a max deal down the line.

If you believe that Bynum orchestrated this whole master plan and really doesn't want to play basketball, you'd assume the former, because he'd just want to get paid. If it's the latter, I'm even more thrilled with that because if Bynum demonstrates he can still play, I have no problem maxing him out. I'm not sure what the rules are on vesting options in the NBA are, but I'd even be OK with 3 years, plus a 4th vesting option for a certain amount of games played.

Before Sam Hinkie, Andrew Bynum was the only chance we had. Now that we know the Sixers owners have their priorities in order, the overwhelming need to get a superstar Right Now before they trip and fall and max out Al Jefferson is not quite as suffocating.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very high on Hinkie too. I love the guy and what he stands for. I just think that Bynum still represents a great chance to be an immediate contender, and I think it's only fans who thought that the only reason to sign Bynum previously was to prevent a worse move.
