Hicks is official?
Neither is official but both are probably bad.
I just found this:
Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks left another game, and this time his absence might last a while.
The team announced he has an ankle injury and won’t return to Monday night’s game.
By distanced video, however, this injury has the makings of a right Achilles tendon rupture.
I hope I am wrong, as there was no close-up view. But it certainly looks and smells like an Achilles. Although technically not the ankle joint, the Achilles tendon could technically be considered the posterior or back part of the ankle.
On a pass play, turning and running in coverage, Hicks appears to have a classic eccentric load where a quick change of direction paired with a strong muscle contraction doesn't allow the tendon time to react. It was a non-contact injury.
Hicks tried to take a step but collapsed. He was examined by the team doctor while on one knee. The team orthopedist could probably see what he needed from the back of Hicks’ leg/ankle. He applied no weight as he was helped off the field, and there was no active dorsiflexion (step on the gas) ability.
Eagles fans are familiar with this injury, as their team drafted Sidney Jones, who had Achilles surgery in March. Jones may play for the Eagles later this season but won't excel until next year.
Hicks was listed as “questionable” for Monday’s game with a calf injury. He had an ankle injury in Week 6.
