Came back from a food drive and the TV was on some cable channel. The movie playing has an actor say, "Listen up mother F***er ?" The younger kid asks if Trump is on TV. Sadly, although at 11 he can be snarky, he was serious. What a F***ing world.

I actually sort of see where the school is coming from here. Two kids, who are friends, are having a discussion between them. One expresses opinions (that are gross and offensive, yes). She gives somewhat specific examples of her own experiences. It's evident that this is a child who is ignorant. She doesn't really seem to know any black people very well and she's formed an opinion based on a little bit of information.

What's the other girl's reaction? Does she talk to her friend to try to change her mind? Offer new perspectives? Nah, fuck that shit, she's publicizing those comments to shame the girl. That's not how discourse works. What do you think is more likely: A) the girl had her horizons expanded and now has a new appreciation for people of different races and backgrounds or B) the girl was harassed and other-ized, reinforcing her dislike of black people and creating a disdain for liberals in general?

We see racism and label that person a racist and believe them to have deep-running character flaws, but it's usually attributable to ignorance. Ignorance is an opportunity to reach out and help a person see something they didn't know was there. Then you see if their viewpoint changed.

I would imagine it's not the first time her friend has stated her views. I get your point and I try to talk to people (months ago on thie board i stated we have to try to persuade people and it wasn't met that well) but at a certain point enough is enough.

Why make that assumption? The response in the message was "You don't think Black people having equal rights ??" and the friend goes on to explain her opinion. Seems like surprise from someone who is not well versed with the other person's views. AND the other girl, who is ignorant, actually tried to talk in these messages! She wasn't just like "yea, fuck black people idk." She said ignorant shit, but she actually tried to have a discussion. Her friend's reaction is to immediately write her off and then publicly shame her. Nobody here is in the right; one kid now just smugly thinks she's a martyr for the left while the other has been pushed to the right.

It is incumbent upon responsible elected republicans to not normalize and endorse this disgusting pig of a man but they didn't even do that during the campaign so who am I kidding. Their staunch conservative principles directed them to oppose president Obama for 8 years-- who would've been a way more liberal president if not for record unprecedented obstructionism-- but they are all lining up proudly to enact the policies of a rapist tax evading conman endorsed by white supremacists
