lowest turnout in what, 20 years? way too many people just assumed Trump couldn't possibly win because he's a jackass, so why bother, right?pacino wrote:first interaction at work:

This. Pissed off rural uneducated white males.

You and anyone else who voted against Hillary don't know what you've done. Don't you realize the Republicans are now going to make it impossible to change the system for the better? You won't have any government branch to stop voter suppression. There's no one left to stop the interests of big money, big oil, big business, religious zealotry, climate change deniers, polluters, big banks, Minority haters, misogynists and all the other forces corrupting the American dream.
Gerrymandering will continue and worsen; today's deficit and debt will look like warts next to the mountains to come; our allies will be snubbed and the Russians will be courted. Healthcare will become more and more an unattainable goal for tens of millions; a good, free public education for all -- the bedrock of democracy and equality -- will see its greatest attack ever, regulations protecting you and your family's health and safety will recede; free speech and freedom of religion for anyone other than Christians will be imperiled; bullying of anyone who doesn't fit the norm will skyrocket; marriage equality and abortion rights will be threatened.
In short, the very culture and institutions you've taken for granted and think you'll use to effect change will be eroded beneath your feet. The progressive cause has been set back decades, if not generations. Hope and help for those who can't help themselves in this country -- especially if you're a minority, LGBT, or anyone else who doesn't look or act like the majority -- is about to undergo its greatest challenge in decades.
No trophies are going to be awarded for your participation. There are no more safe spaces. We've just opened the gates and invited the barbarians in. Anyone who thinks they're going to sit down for tea and cookies and a chat about how we can change the system for the better is in for a rude awakening.
I've never been more scared for the future of this country -- and your future as young Americans -- than I am at this moment. It's kind of touching and pathetic to see you think we can all now just join hands and sing Kumbaya.
