Think if he had been running in a different state the party would've encouraged him to retire or primaried him, but his seat was a lost cause in a presidential year anyway even before Trump with anyone but him. I haven't seen a lot of him post stroke, but the Chicago Tribune basically said they didn't endorse him this time around because they don't think he's mentally recovered from it.
