Donald fails the sniff test (politics)

Duterte continues to be a piece of shit:

Noting that Hitler had murdered millions of Jews, Duterte said: "There are three million drug addicts (in the Philippines). I'd be happy to slaughter them.

"If Germany had Hitler, the Philippines would have...," he said, pausing and pointing to himself.

"You know my victims. I would like (them) to be all criminals to finish the problem of my country and save the next generation from perdition."

Duterte was voted to power in a May election on the back of a vow to end drugs and corruption in the country of 100 million people. He took office on June 30 and over 3,100 people have been killed since then, mostly alleged drug users and dealers, in police operations and in vigilante killings.

Two days before the Philippines election, outgoing President Benigno Aquino had warned that Duterte's rising popularity was akin to that of Hitler in the 1920s and 1930s.

"I hope we learn the lessons of history," Aquino said in widely reported remarks. "We should remember how Hitler came to power."

apparently the 911 sue the saudi's bill is all Obama's fault

But Republicans said the White House didn’t make a forceful case, putting themselves in the awkward position of blaming the president for a bill they enacted into law over Obama’s veto

that so many folks find the very notion of american accountability to be beyond the pale tells us so much

Oh come on. Sovereign immunity is a very necessary thing. It has its downsides, to be certain, but this is a completely ignorant statement. I can believe in accountability but disagree with the notion of our country and its agents being sued in a foreign court. This is why many people (including myself) support the idea of something like the ICC, where safeguards can be put into place to prevent kangaroo courts and arbitrary rules of law.

Of course it's not Obama's fault. It's Hillary's.

so what's the accountability for our illegal apparently "arbitrary" war in Iraq where we killed a million civilians and destroyed their infrastructure?

beyond that, if it's really a kangaroo court, then I don't believe the US will feel any obligation to participate or adhere to any of its rulings.

If we weaken sovereign immunity and allow our citizens to sue Saudi Arabia in our courts, then what's stopping a foreign citizen suing us in their home court. A foreign country may then order the seizure of American assets in that country to pay relief.

I don't know if that's how it would work out, but it's not simply ignoring the foreign order.

Even a kangaroo court can encumber international US assets, either in that country or another country friendly to that one.

If we're breaking international law, then it should be adjudicated in an international forum, not the "victim" country's court. It's naive to think that every country can or should be held "accountable" for its foreign policy decisions in the subject nation's courts. Only a small fraction of the world even has independent judiciaries.

I think I'd be inclined to agree more if there were any accountability, but there hasn't been, so I can't agree with you.

A video of Donald Trump testifying under oath about his provocative rhetoric about Mexicans and other Latinos is set to go public as soon as Friday, drawing new attention to those comments just weeks before voters cast their ballots in the presidential race.

Trump gave the testimony in June at a law office in Washington in connection with one of two lawsuits he filed last year after prominent chefs reacted to the controversy over his remarks by pulling out of plans to open restaurants at his new D.C. hotel.

D.C. Superior Court Judge Brian Holeman said in an order issued Thursday evening that fears the testimony might show up in campaign commercials were no basis to keep the public from seeing the video.

The longer this election season goes on the more I am convinced that we are witnessing the unfolding of this Simpsons episode in real life.

Blame that (partly) on the conservatives and hawkish Dems who have blocked every angle of the US participation in the ICC. But that doesn't mean you should support a terrible solution that would create more problems than it solves.

Forgot to mention that the ultimate irony of JASTA is that the party supporting this solution most strongly is also the one with a platform of tort reform. Morons.

Conservative argument tactics:

1) the troops who fight in our morally ambiguous wars are disrespected when you're concerned with justice in America
2) why don't you move to another country
