It is so very tough, Mr. Trump. So very tough.

Are we supposed to believe this? .Does he think this will garner him more votes?

I suppose the strategy is that his "softening" will help convince white voters that he's lost (particularly college educated women, that traditionally votes GOP) because they felt he was being too racist/mean to pull the Trump lever
The hope is that his ardent alt-right supporters and blue collar voters will continue to still support him because they view his new statements as a wink and a nod and doesn't really mean them and is just saying it to win

I highly doubt it'll work as he minorities aren't going to switch but it could be enough to save some down ticket collateral damage

He doesn't give two shits about down ticket collateral damage.

This is because Steve Bannon and Kellyanne Conway have convinced him that he needs to do a better job of using coded language to his white supremacist supporters--rather than the explicit language he's been using--while conducting minority outreach.

In the meantime, he'll continue running the recent campaign ad showing the trainload of brown people (allegedly) crossing our (allegedly) wide-open border that Obama (lol) isn't protecting.

Nah, this is the typical stuff that VP candidates do. Go give a speech, make a local appearance at a small business, do a fundraiser, fly to next location, repeat.

never said he cares about down ticket but ultimately if he can convince white women he isnt a huge prick that they think him to be then it will have that effect but probably no effect on the presidency other than tightening

I can't imagine it will have much of an impact. A few points here or there, sure. But this is a guy who has been in the public eye for 35 years with an extensive history of outlandish statements, particularly against women. He's not going to change his unfavorable rating much at all by softening his demeanor for 10 weeks... and that's making a YUGE assumption that he can control himself for that long. He can't and won't. Elizabeth Warren will bait him on Twitter, and he'll go off. Or he'll get bored during a stump speech and run his mouth about immigrants. He doesn't have the patience, discipline, or self-control to keep this up.

I watched that great PBS documentary about Nixon. He too, didn't care about the party. Republicans ended up not going to great length to help him out during the Watergate thing. Yowsa.

On the other hand, Nixon accomplished a lot, especially in foreign policy. Plus he eventually ended the Vietnam War.

He also had some good folks working domestic issues and his administration accomplished some good things there.

So my conclusion is he was a lot like Trump in many ways, but he at least knew how things worked and got a lot of good things done. But in the end, his massive personal weaknesses doomed him. Trump wouldn't accomplish much, if anything. But he has the personal weaknesses that would doom him as well.
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

I've read and learned more about the alt-right movement than id like to over the last few weeks. It's so ridiculous that the Republican party has provided this dangerous and unhinged fringe group the national platform that it has.

And what is their obsession with cucking?? They can't stop using the term "cuckservative"

Donald, you donated $100K to the Clinton Foundation in 2008. You have actively bragged about donating money to politicians so you could have access to them.

How in the everliving hell can anyone with an IQ greater than 75 take this man seriously?

we have a really large (14) group of iranian students coming this year. Usually we have just 2 or 3. I have one in my faculty family (a group of students that we counsel during the year). I met his parents and had a great conversation with them. When they found out I was from the US near the end of the conversation, they said something about me not having a good impression of them because they are from Iran. I told them that I think there are people on both sides who want to keep us apart, but that I think we should come together. Their faces seriously lit up and they thanked me repeatedly. Just doing my part for world peace.

Then I ran to the science equipment room, grabbed the geiger counter, and surreptitiously checked their luggage for signs of uranium.

You're welcome.

I was going to make a joke about offering them a slice of yellow cake, but went with the geiger counter thing. hope I chose correctly.

I think the yellow cake path would have been more rewarding because of the whole double entendre thing.
