Do I really need to dig up quotes from the mid 90s, 2000s, and today of politicians using terms like thug to try and sell prison as punitive and not rehabilitation? It's unfortunately, but not unusual. Your second point, I'll admit ignorance on, but the only mention of "destroy" I see is destroying a story, not a life. There's also a blackmail accusation which is also troubling, and also not uniquely Hillary.

Perhaps I'm unclear, I'm not trying to say that none of this should concern people, and it's appropriate if this disqualifies her in your opinion, but she's not the first politician to have these shadows, nor will she probably be the last. She does, however, seem to have a disproportionate amount of distrust and dislike as compared to a typical shitty politician.

Also, I want to make clear that I'm not trying to imply that you're a hypocrite, or unfairly focusing on Hillary Clinton. I know that you would share the same feelings for any politician who has these issues surrounding him/her.

it seems like none of this concerns a lot of hillary supporters. look at this thread, you have 3 or 4 different posters commenting excusing the things i posted.

1. Minorities vote at the same rate as whites
2. Blacks/Hispanics overwhelmingly support Hillary
3. She gets 30% of the vote of white women
4. She get 10% of the vote of white men

JH, do you know of any recent polls that break down the vote in those two states? Are they competitive? If not, in which of those four benchmarks is she falling short?

Seen nothing from either. PPP had a poll out yesterday in South Carolina that has Trump up only two. http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/ ... _81116.pdf - Trump's up 57-20 with whites and down 80-5 with blacks. Think your math is probably about right on the white share of the vote in Mississippi. Louisiana is a bit less black, but it also has more white Democrats I think.

I'm not sure if I'm party of the 3 or 4, but I'm not trying to excuse it. They are all valid concerns. Hillary Clinton seems to get it more harshly than other politicians, but that just might be the uber-partisan world we live in now.

Hillary Clinton seems to have learned from her mistakes, or at least says the things you want to hear to convince yourself into believing that she has. POTUS is not really the job where you can afford to give someone the benefit of the doubt, but looking at the major alternative I'm more than willing to this time.

I think (at least from my perspective) a difference between being concerned about certain aspects of a candidate and choosing who to vote for. Let's face it- barring one of them dropping out, one of them will be the next POTUS. It does give me some extra gusto in that much of Bernie's platform was adopted by the D's, so I'll be an unabashed Hillary supporter at this point. Do I wish the D's could've had a different nominee? Yes, but that doesn't matter at this juncture.

that is all beside the point.

i'm saying i posted a bunch of stuff about how hillary has been gross and it was met with a bunch of excuses, so it seems like people aren't that concerned. if they were concerned, they would just agree and that would be that.

i get that clinton supporters are naturally over-defensive because their girl gets the most bullshit criticisms from the right, but "well, she admitted she was wrong" and "other politicians were doing it" are bullshit excuses.

You view them as excuses. Others may not.

We've discussed things in the past and I don't feel I was giving 'excuses'. I'm not going to relitigate over and over.

She also happens to be running at a time in which her opponent (Bernie, not Trump) built a platform on (perceived) anti-establishment and honesty and decency. So when combined with all the above, in comparison it makes her look worse

Ever since being FLOTUS and trying to get health care passed, the GOP has gone after her with such vitriol. We're talking 23 years of almost constant accusations and name calling and such. That will affect public perception on anyone. Granted she isn't great at being forthright and apologetic when she does gaffe or fuck up (she's very defensive) but she's no where near the lying criminal monster that she's painted to be

Yeh, she's been attacked for decades. There are few people on the left or right who see her objectively. That was my worry with her from the beginning. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending how you look at it), Trump has been a historic disaster. They're going to write books about how bad he was/is.

I admitted those were not good choices in hindsight but you can see how they might have made them in the early 90s. Now she's the only person with a chance to beat a demagogue threat to the nation and she has acknowledged these past sins. I think everyone has reservations with her, they're just to a vastly different degree.

You're right about the dws honorary co-chair thing. Could not care less about that really.

People usually critique someone in a political race in reference to the other person in said race. It's a thing that's done.

Dems 2006: Bush's xenophobia makes America look foolish!
Dems 2016: The Slavs have a weak brainstem, which of course makes them devious.

The trump/putin connection is just liberals being xenophobic
