reddit has managed to take a great idea and then absolutely fuck it up repeatedly. There's still a lot of great content and good communities (/r/askscience is fantastic for example) but the neck beardy/men's right voices are uncomfortably loud.

I had the misfortune of going on to Gawker's page after reading Hamilton Nolan's article on the Families Are Great and Liberals Are Destroying America rally in Iowa. Holy shit are they ever obsessed with themselves. Pretty great from a site that regularly criticizes millennials as selfish.

Tried to change my hairstyle up. Showed my girl a picture of what I wanted. Kinda longer on the top, much shorter side thing. I grew it out and everything so it would work.

I got the same haircut I always get. She cut too much off the top. I tried not to let on my disappointment but she probably knew. Now I have to try again in a few months. Sigh.

What's kinda funny is that they probably shouldn't have been allowed to resign, because they probably should have been fired for cause the minute that article was published.

I mean, Gawker really only had three choices once that story went up.

1) Do nothing, hope the shitstorm blows over and that you don't lose too many sponsors.
2) Leave it up, but fire the guy who wrote it, the editor who approved it, and anyone who was involved in it.
3) Pull it.

Denton probably did them a favor by pulling it, because at least they get to impale themselves on their own swords this way and keep their REAL JOURNALISTS cred. Somebody will fall in love with the idea of hiring both of them at some point, and both are very good writers.

They're right to be pissed that the story was pulled, but they're defending an awful story that almost nobody thought should have been published in the first place, so they just look ridiculous taking such a stance on it. I don't think I've seen anybody that isn't employed by Gawker Media defend that story.

The resignation letters are insanely tone-deaf. The slightest bit of introspection would have gone a mile there. Something like "look, maybe that post wasn't the greatest thing we've ever done, but you still can't pull it, because if you can pull that, you can pull something else." To sit there and continue to pretend that the story was just fine is absurd and Denton's just overreacting is absurd.
