American cheese (even Kraft singles) is adequate in melted applications. I do not understand why anyone would choose it over other cheeses though.

I will say that it is useful as a base for macaroni and cheese (blended with other cheeses), as it melts readily.

Agreed. I think there's a comfort food quality to putting it on burgers, especially thin patty, diner/fast food types of burgers.

I don't disagree with some of the stuff in that burger article, but to act like there is one right way to make a burger is silly and clickbait-y. I've had thin little flat-top diner burgers that are great and giant, fat pub style grilled ones with fancy cheeses that are awesome as well. That's why burgers rule.
