Going to have to give them a try on next the next trip to the homeland. Vegatable oil tho. :/ it seems like grandma utz is the last of the dying breed that cooks their chips in lard. I've been throughout the us and berks/lancaster county region is the epicenter of Americas finest chips.

I read elsewhere that Dbach is also lard fried. That is the key to the best chips.... until someone figures out to use duck fat or tallow.
Animal fats > vegetable fats.
When I roast a chicken or turkey, I save the fat and use it instead of oil or butter. Did it with my Christmas ham, too. MMMMM lard.
