I've never been to Longwood on a holiday weekend, but it would probably have a lot of extra people. However, the place is so huge it wouldn't make that much difference, I think, except maybe in the greenhouses.

Agree with phat et al. But the big saving grace is that they do their fireworks on the third and they get a ton of people for the fireworks shows, so it may not be too bad on the fourth.

the parking lot can be tricky when it is crowded. but yeah the place is awesome. for sure go at some point. they have a lot of cool events that would be worth going to too.

just saw edward sharpe and the magnetic zeros are playing there in august. it is sold out already though
