What's the make and model for your speakers/speaker unit? Generally you would have a receiver that is powering the speakers and kind of controlling everything volume-wise. Like you should have the FiOS box connected to an HDMI input on the receiver, and the HDMI output on the receiver connected to an HDMI input on the TV. You can set the receiver to send video only to the TV and then the audio gets sent to the speakers with regular speaker wire. Then you just need a universal remote that controls the FiOS box, the receiver, and the TV. Onkyo makes decent, reasonably priced receivers.

I connected the speakers to the FIOS box with an RCA cable. And the TV is connected to the box with an HDMI.

If I need a receiver, I'll probably just sell this speaker set and get a better sounding TV. It's all kind of cluttered looking anyway.

Don't think you'd be able to control volume with a remote without adding a receiver. Unless you find a "sweet spot" on the manual controls and then can see if adjusting the volume on the FiOS box works.

But hey if that's an excuse to buy a new TV I'd call that a win!
