At other times too I would find this uncomfortable. Plus I generally wear shorts four or five times before washing, so unsanitary as well.

long john it when it gets too cold out. but i usually stick on a treadmill winter time anyway

When it's that cold, it's Underarmor briefs + running pants for me. Although I've been known to still go with shorts for a race with temps below 40.

not just being there- but if it was me, my cheek would be buried in the tie and I wouldn't budge until the train was past, no matter how long it took. I once left my 8MM movie camera on the train tracks and convinced all my friends that I was laying on the tracks to get the shot of the train passing over.

I mean, maybe being under a train all that time you start to freak a bit. I'm sure I would. Except, of course, as Bucky noted, I'd avoid being in such a position in the first place. And of course, you have to wonder about the guy recording the whole thing.

weird quirks of local government: my borough has 14 police officers, my girlfriend's has 3. they are the exact same size, just about 4400.

yeah, i think it's because we're next to the city (we have k9s, fancy new cars, all sorts of crap). i just thought it was weird how stark it was. i wondered why i NEVER saw cops go by her street. but, 3? cops are currently suspended and under investigation. it's a terrible department. kind of wish the city department or the neighboring suburban dept would take over.

their department has 3 cops, 2 of whom are full-time. they let a potential fourth go after their year-long trial period because they thought she didnt cut the mustard.

Are there budget issues? Half the municipalities in NEPA (where I'm from) got rid of their police departments and now depend on state police and arrangements with nearby municipalities with police to cover them because they have no monies. IIRC, my old hometown also got rid of sanitation and ambulance too (now handled by private providers that charge each resident directly) and stopped funding the volunteer fire depts. Not really surprising since the local and county governments and courts up there are rife with corruption, graft, etc... a county judge was recently convicted in connection with a private juvie jail scheme (getting kickbacks for each kid he sent there), another judge convicted of a ponzi scheme, a big poli convicted of corruption...
