A 47-year-old friend of mine claims he has never heard "Waterfalls." I thought this was impossible for anyone who was alive in the '90s.

He spent the late '80s and early '90s chorched all the time and following the Grateful Dead. Still, in 1994 and 1995, if you were alive in the USA, you came upon that song at least once by accident.

just feel like people are always saying that and then the song comes on they go, "Oh, yeah, this one."

I used to do the same thing until I just accepted that if everyone says you've heard the song, you probably have

His explanation:

"I pretty much stopped listening to the radio (with the exception of Howard Stern) around 1991."

I was thinking about 3 Doors Down recently. Back in 99 or whenever I thought Superman was a pretty great song and I bought their album, which was pretty consistently dreck by comparison. And they've never had another song that I liked. Any other bands that have had longtime exposure fit this mold?

I nominate Green Day. Longview was great; they've had some other songs that are OK, maybe good even, but not to that standard.

Going back to my earlier reference, the rest of TLC's output aside from Waterfalls is pretty lame. Waterfalls is gorgeous, esp. now that it's not played to death anymore.

My one friend lived in Alabama for 3 years and somehow didn't hear "song of the south" until like a year after he moved back north.

This belongs in the controversial opinions thread if for No Scrubs alone.

Lil' Vulture and I had a great time at Great Adventure. El Toro was much scarier than Kingda Ka, but Kingda Ka was really fun--there's nothing like being launched up a 45 story tower at 128 mph. Superman was pretty great, Green Lantern was uncomfortable, but not really scary. Also, inexplicably had the longest line of the day. El Toro, by contrast, had practically no line at all, and Kingda Ka wasn't too bad either. Didn't make get to Bizzaro. Lots of daycampers in attendance.
