Tomorrow's Breakout Thread Today: Random Thoughts

Question for the android phone owners. My wife's phone has used about 3gb of data in the last 48 hours. We were in the car when most of it was used and she had it plugged in and just sitting on the center console. My question is WHY THE FUCK IS IT USING SO MUCH DATA AND HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP. Right now it's turned off and just sitting on a table. It's an htc inspire I have no idea what software it's running, but it should be whatever the most recent version is.

She doesn't have netflix or any streaming video apps installed, and no streaming music apps running. We were listening to spotify on my phone the whole 12 hour drive.

So she's now used like 3.5 gb of data, my iPhone has used about 500mb all month and I'm tethering my iPad to it. Something isn't right

This won't be the end all be all solution but download the task killer app (its free) and it properly closes out your apps for you when you do not. If you just 'back out' of an app and do not close it properly it will continue to use data.

Ok, so task killer will auto close apps instead of letting them blow through data in the background? Ok gonna give that a try.

yeah, i'd try that app. i use my phone quite a bit and i've only used about 730 mb so far this month. something definitely not right. the task killer app people also make a battery saver app, which allows you to turn off the "data" signal whenever you want. i do that at work so my phone isn't constantly looking for 3G/4G phone signal when all i care about at work is getting texts and calls.

i think if you have gps and data turned on at all times the phone just chews up the data signal.

The carrier. We get emails when the data hits certain % thresholds. Last night I got 4 emails at 3:30 am saying she used 50%, 75%, reached the limit and exceeded the limit. I called att and told them that there is something wrong and their response was "you should consider a higher data plan" ffs. I told them she's a stay at home mom of a 4 month old and she's on wifi about 90% of the time. The rep was going on an on about things that could be using data like leaving a web page open, or leaving pandora on pause. I don't think either of those things would consume gigabytes of data in a 12 hour span. I mean all in all it's only gonna cost $10 in overages, so it's the principle that's pissing me off now. Their shitty device that they sold us doesn't work right and we have a year left on the contract and the attitude is tough shit. The warranty expired yesterday (literally yeaterday) and the closest AT&T store to us is over an hour away.

I used to leave pandora on all day at work. It doesn't really use much data

My girlfriend woke up early and started cleaning my apartment, then drove me to work, then found some stray weed in my place. This is easily the best Memorial Day of my life

I don't think I'm being peevish or overly literal thinking that people aren't getting the idea that Memorial Day is not for thanking members of the military for their service. It's for remembering those who have died in serving their country. The day for honoring all members of the military is Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. Ultimate sacrifice and all that.

Yeah high school was fun but reliving it not so much. Not knowing w-t-f happened the night before is a bad feeling. I've never shit my pants, ever. I drove home, which is even worse.
