A lot of times I want to comment on a particular thread, but I don't feel like wading through the posts to see if someone already made the same point I was going to make. Pretty much resigned to about 8 threads now.

Just got a text from my mom that my uncle's sister passed away from breast cancer, and that she'll let me know when the services are...I've met this person like once ever. If I get guilted into going to this funeral I'm gonna be mad at myself.

My uncle is my mom's sister's husband. His sister is a woman I met once (as far as I remember) at a cousin's high school graduation or something. Maybe I met her before that when I was younger, but they didn't really have big family things with both sides over at their house much.

I guess my family never referred to the spouses of my uncles and aunts as uncles and aunts themselves. Or in Vietnamese, we have different words for the spouses of uncles and aunts to differentiate the people related by blood vs related by marriage.
