Since building my new desktop, I hate hate HATE using my laptop 99% of the time, but having the portability has its advantages.
I'll probably get something netbookish down the road a bit, like this.

Basically, for someone who does a lot of work on a computer (especially certain kinds of work that demand processing power and/or a lot of pixels), they're limiting and slow and generally annoying.
So my personal plan is to eventually replace my laptop, which previously was my only computer, with an even more compact laptop to be used only when portability is needed, and do the rest of my work on my desktop.

Pretty much this. I bought my laptop to take to Iraq with me. Now I keep it on my nightstand and use it to play music when I go to sleep and for the gamethreads while watching the games. I also don't think there's any real need for a "gaming" computer in today's market either, graphics have definitely started to plateau and I'm not seeing much of the value outside of choosing a motherboard with a newer processor architecture (45nm Core i5/i7/i9). Personally, I'm a big advocate of the home theater PC as the center of a home network. If you need to take your computer with you while going to school or traveling on business then sure, they're still the best portable computers. But if its to use the internet from the kitchen table then a cheap netbook/laptop/tablet to hook into your home network will probably make you happier in the long run.

Yup. Just posted about this on Monday. Took good pictures (and was right), so I won. Totally worth it. Bring a book.
