I think I can at least potentially get through student teaching. I guess there is just a fear of completely bombing lessons in front of students. I guess it shouldn't matter too much, but I am more concerned of just fucking up these kids' educations.

Kinda surprised your doc put you on Prozac for anxiety. It's an anti-depressant that has little effect with anxiety issues from what I understand. You may want to ask for a different med that treats anxiety.

I think it was more for the combo of anxiety/depression than only anxiety. While I may not have admitted to depression, he seemed to think it was there. Actually, that was more the psychologist saying that than the doctor.

student teaching suhuhucks- even with a good cooperating teacher. if you think you can survive (and i wasn't getting that feeling from your initial post), then stick with it. do your goddamned homework and you have nothing to worry about.
Fine. You wanna act like you're two? I'll act like I'm one.

I see. Even so, if you yourself believe that the Prozac had no effect then it obviously wasn't working for you. A different medication that targets anxiety might work better. Worth a shot.

Student teaching was horrible. I would go to school at 7, leave at 3, come home and just work on lessons until I had to go out for the night for the organization I was volunteering with. I wouldn't get home until past 10 or 1030. Some days that would be the first time I was home all day.
I broke down at times too. Seriously.

I got through it though. Student teaching is nothing like real teaching. Stick with it. There are only three months to go.

hell, come out here and get a job teaching part-time like i do. let's just say you don't have to worry about fucking up their educations, because they wouldn't be going here if they didn't fuck up their educations already.

But TV teaches, and I plan to. Just taking the long way there. Or the drunk way (but not this week).

CFP--what's not clear is that the depression/anxiety is caused by student teaching, or if it's just a coincidence, or some combination of the two.

That being said, teaching isn't for everyone, and it's hard (though it certainly gets a lot easier once you've been at it a few years) and to pursue a not especially lucrative career because you've put in a few years toward pursuing those educational goals is probably not a good idea. Fighting through it at this point however probably isn't a terrible idea, but it's probably worth talking through all this with someone you trust. Are you having issues with class room management? Kids can smell weakness and will take advantage of it. If they seem to be doing what they're supposed to be doing most of the time, you're probably doing ok.

Also, don't worry about ruining someone's education. While a good teacher can inspire kids and change their lives in a positive direction, I would guess only a truly vindictive and malicious teacher can really damage a kid. Mr. Speiser sort of sucked as a high school English teacher, but the only consequence was that we were all bored for 5 hours a week.

Chipotle is going to air their first ever commercial in their 19 year history during the Grammy's. I guess I never noticed they didn't have commercials. Kind of amazing.
