Rick Tyler:

98 percent of African-Americans vote Democrat, okay? What have they gotten for it? Poor schools, poor neighborhoods, crime-ridden neighborhoods, a destruction of the family, and the Democrats want to abort their babies. That's their position. I'm not going to defend that.

What's even worse is that he says all of it twice. The video is ugly.

So a bit more than 2-1 in favor of Romney. Romney+Romney's SuperPAC outspent Gingrich+Gingrich's SuperPAC by about 4-1, but the public sector unions spent a million bucks hitting Romney too.

I think it was the 24% of ads that were neither positive or negative about Gingrich that killed him. How much money was wasted on those ads that apparently were so generic and lame that they did not even register with the public or political analysts?

What

My statement was more about addition and grouping. Gingrich 68% negative + 8% positive = 76% when grouped where as it might have been useful to say 11.7% of the ads were Gingrich positive leaving 88.3% as Gingrich negative. The Romney negative number just sort of floats as there is no Romney positive ads accounted for and with 68%+23%+8%= 99%, the Romney positive ads cannot be just 1%. So the 24% can from the perception that 24% of the Gingrich ads were unaccounted for.

Romney had one positive radio ad in Spanish, and it amounted to 0.1% of the total ads aired in Florida. Grouping was 68/31. Why would you add positive Newt ads to negative Newt ads instead of negative Romney ads if you're looking at what each side spent?

Apparently Republican family-values poster boy Sen. David Vitter is claiming credit for persuading Komen for the Cure to pull out of Planned Parenthood

There is plenty to not like about Komen (read about their demands for research money), but an overt political move is pretty disgusting. Be a charity and do good, is that toouch to ask?

Virginia is a fascinating state politically. Until about 2006 it was clearly R-leaning, but at this point I think it has to be as true-purple as they come. Their Republicans, as noted from the list above, have gone way off the deep end; not so long ago they had John Warner, a conservative but nobody's idea of a right-wing psycho, as their big name.

But their name Democrats are almost the definition of moderate: Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, Jim Webb. I would guess that whatever "bench" they have is the same way.

I guess this tells us that at least for now, nobody to the left of Kaine can win statewide office there; and that if moderate Republicans ever showed back up in force, the state again would be solid red. But the party doesn't really allow that anymore.

Is there any 2nd term governor with an approval rating that even comes close to Mike Beebe's 72%?

Lawrence O'Donnell just wrapped up a wonkelicious riff on American Airlines, Bain Capital, and the PBG effing C, and why a lot of people probably wouldn't want a Bain guy in a position to appoint the head of that last gov't agency.

The seed of his rant: American Airlines' bankruptcy proceedings, and the advice it receiving from Bain - along with McKinsey & some others - to, among other things, forego making payments on outstanding pension fund obligations.

Bain & the consultants are being paid $14 mil/month (by O'Donnell's count). AA's pension obligation is just under $100 million, of which AA was initially going to pay around $6 mil. PBGC has placed liens on AA properties for the value of the contribution due.

O'Donnell gleefully pointed out that Bain (he basically ignored the other firms) is being paid for making the airline's condition worse -for reducing its perceived value - by kneecapping those who ARE the airline's value - any airline's value - the pilots, crew, mechanics etc.

There's really not much of a market for doing that kind of diatribe well, but O'Donnell can do it pretty well

This is kinda sorta not real politics, so may not belong, but the Twitter profile for Komen for the Cure's executive director may shed some light on why it pulled its Planned Parenthood funding:

But she's mainly all about the breast cancer cause

So a breast cancer charity gave around $700,000 annually to Planned Parenthood, and people who wanted to support the cause but disapprove of abortion complained, so they stopped to assuage those donors.

Planned Parenthood's annual revenue is over $1 billion. If people want to give to Planned Parenthood, why not give to Planned Parenthood?
