Somebody at work here said it was over as soon as Newt combined the words "Obama" with "food stamps".

FWIW, crazy long lines today at my polling place.

yup, pretty much. food stamps don't exist anymore, fwiw. it's called SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program). and it's a card. but thats' what he did and it turned the tide. amazing.

i just love the idea that he's the food stamp president...it goes up and down based on the economy. he inherited a terrible economy. i mean, this is common sense.

timed nicely for when he most needed it.

I still think Mitt has this thing, but maybe Newt is going to give him for trouble than I thought. If they are going to ignore Newt's obvious problems in favor of show, then he has a chance. Mitt is just entirely unlikeable.

if all the fridge leftovers are scarfed up there's not much left for the grade-school janitors to do
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

this only makes sense if your organization's principal interest is stimulating an enduring "reportable" story

consider: if newt does NOT win SC, or come close, who gives a flip, for months & months?

and it looks as though the MSM's gambit worked purrrrrrfectly

oh, and why is Santorum talking like he's done something?

"three states, 3 winners, what a country"

hey, Rick, congrats, you edged out Ron Paul for 3rd place in an actual vote count
what an idiot

I know the idea of Gingrich utterly horrifies the Republican establishment and that they'll try to destroy him (and, note, I'm glad and grateful for this). But might they also be starting to realize that what's wrong with Romney probably isn't fixable? He simply can't seal the deal: the more people see of him, the less they like him. His Mormonism still hurts him among the base, and he's just the perfectly wrong challenger candidate for this year.

Their nominee might not be someone currently in the race. (And Daniels, Huckabee, maybe Palin et al have to be kicking themselves for not jumping in.)

mediatistas have to be rubbing their hands together in glee: "they made this contest happen"

republicans, why not choose your nominee at the convention, since you can't get 'er done in these furshlugginer primary thingies?

I'm listening to the ordinarily lavishly self-congratulatory MSNBC talkers examine the exit poll results & marvel that these rock-ribbed conservative SC voters didn't righteously reject flamboyantly serial philanderer gingrich, ignoring as they did his avid, unabashed pursuit of an open marriage: "they just didn't seem to care".

Right dumbasses, what they care even MORE about, in their insecurity and acute sense of inferiority, is that Newt lashed out at YOU, the emblem of their persecutors, with more energy than primly monogamous Romney or the primly psychotic Santorum.

That is, you didn't ask them the right exit question: "was your vote influenced more by gingrich's moral vacancy or the media's inquiries about gingrich's moral vacancy?"

even as I type, Gingrich is railing about victory over unnamed "elites", while his supporters chant "USA! USA! USA!" as if they're at a hockey game

it's good to know i'm elite, though

being an effective 'food stamp president' is a good thing. it means you are helping those in need. most people on benefits are elderly, disabled or children. most able-bodied people are working and can't make their ends meet.
