Roy Rogers is still my all-time favorite fastfood, though their chicken is good, not Popeye's or KFC Extra Crispy-level-great. Love going to Maryland, where you can still hit stand alone locations in the middle of the state near Frederick (the corporate HQ of like the 20 remaining Roy Rogerses).

Roy Rogers was a burger joint that had roast beef as well and generally higher quality ingredients than McDonald's, Burger King, etc., had a "fixins" bar where you could add toppings to your own burger in whatever combination and proportion you so desired, and also had delicious fried chicken after awhile (I never knew it without the fried chicken).

They were then bought out by Hardee's, which basically ruined them and Hardee's. Hardee's changed all the Roy Rogers to Hardee's, then changed them back when that proved a disaster. But by then Roy Rogers had taken a huge hit on its market share.

It still had many locations out west through a few years ago supposedly, but they were all closed in one fell swoop at one point. There is still a stand-alone Roy Rogers in NYC, and there are Roy Rogerses along the PA and NJ turnpike in the rest stops, and a hand full of stand-alone locations in Maryland and a few other places. I think they have less than 30 locations now all told.

That one is still there.

If I am going up that way, I usually stop in.

What is the statute of limitations for responding to a post in the non-PTK world? I would say you can't go further back than 3 pages, unless you want to make fun of someone.

Never got all the way into fried chicken, thankfully, but on hungover Sundays I'd attack the State College KFC buffet Captain Caveman style

na, it's only the intake manifold. if it's only going to be about 2,000 more to fix, i'd rather just do it. car is 9 years old and only has 87K on it.

Or, as seen from the other side, the car needs 2,000 dollars in repairs after only 87k miles.

Best fried chicken place for me was Picken Chicken on George Street in New Brunswick. However, the place I'm thinking about didn't have much resemblance to the Picken Chicken currently at that location, if the website is any indication. The place I'm thinking about had in addition to delicious greasy chicken deep fried potato logs. And you'd get a roll with your chicken. That was pretty much it. And it could be scary late at night. Which of course is a sign of quality fried chicken.

For a few short months, there was a restaurant here that served outstanding fried chicken, but it wasn't fast food type chicken. A whole different experience. We also have a small local chain called Chick a Dilly that is rather good.

I have fond memories of the Popeye's on City Line, but it's been a long time. Maybe I'll try Popeye's next time I'm near one.
