If I ever get married and have kids I'm sure it'll be a futile attempt, but I'm going to try and persuade the wife to forgo middle names for the kids. I mean really, there's absolutely no point to middle names. Most people don't know and don't need to know your middle name. And if they do know it they never use it. All it is is an extra step in filling out information.

Or let your kids decide their own middle name when they get their license.

Mrs. Vulture and 3 of her 4 siblings don't have middle names. I'm not sure there's been any huge benefit, but none of them seem to mind. I have no idea why my in-laws did it that way.

My wife has a middle initial instead of a middle name. Her parents hadn't thought about a middle name for her and some form or another asked for a middle initial so they picked K at random.

I don't have a middle name and I am not one bit disappointed.

Only practical use of a middle name I can think off is to distinguish you from other similarly named people on terrorist no-fly lists or deadbeat lists when you get a mortgage or other loan.

That and keeping relatives happy by naming kids after as many ancestors as possible.

My dad has the same first name as me but a different middle name so my relatives often call me by my first and middle name, especially because "Little Kevin" was never very apt a description
