You're allowed to "root" assuming they aren't in the same division (conference in certain sports) or a rival, but you'll never (or should never!) feel the true gratification of their winning. In fact, your strongest feelings will be when they beat a rival of your true team. Also, you can buy a few cheap apparel items, but most/all of those teams' gear should be received for nothing via promotional giveaways or as part of special deals (e.g. I "bought" two AZ Cardinals jerseys where I received two pairs of Suns tickets for games I was going to attend anyway, and it was like I just effectively bought the tickets and received said jerseys for free.)

Edit: Also, you should pretty much only wear the apparel to games or to watch games at a bar.

And once you leave that new city, you should lose most affinity for the new team and root for your new local team like you did the old one.

Well, I dunno about that last part.

When I moved to SF, I rooted for the Giants, but since, I've lived in DC and NYC. I never developed an affiliation for the Nationals and you couldn't pay me to root for the Mets. I probably dislike the Yankees less than I used to though. The Giants are probably still my 2nd favorite NL team, but if the Phillies were 100, they would rate a 15 and the Nationals would be like a 10 with the Mets at -100 in 07-08. Probably like -20 now since they're so pitiful.

Yeah, I still have some affinity for the Diamondbacks and watch them occasionally on MLB.tv as a west coast game, but most of my feelings are gone.

Also, there's a good chance you'll develop a sort of like-hate relationship with certain teams (cough *Suns* cough).

I just came back from Joseph's Pizza and almost ran over a chicken on the way home. A chicken. For those of you who don't know already, I live in NE Philly.

Novel choice, though I may go with John Goodman.

The VoxKids' school is having their annual carnival this week. Now Vox and I both grew up in places where you did not go to carnivals unless you wanted to see a knife fight or worse.

While this kind of antics aren't going on at this carnival, the lowest common denominator that it's attracting is amazing. I watched a woman try and put her about 18-month old baby on a ride that goes about 12 feet in the air, and then bitched that (a) she wasn't allowed on the ride with the kid and then (b) that the kid wasn't allowed to ride by itself.

my bike ride Sunday morning took me to the Perkiomen trail, along the Perkiomen Creek ( ). On the way out I saw a goat cross the trail and head toward the creek. On my way back there were 2. WTF

I dunno, but I think turn signals built into side mirrors is an awesome improvement and should be made standard.

I've had my truck modified so it shoots flares from either side. It's really cut down on the accidents I've had at night. From zero to negative zero.

so today when I walked in the one staff entrance, instead of the guard who is usually there, there was a wreath commemorating his death
