This is a Democratic concept that I don't get. Are we interested in punishing the Party that is perceived to have gotten us into this mess or actually getting us out of the mess? America doesn't owe it to the Democrats because the Republicans messed up. They actually need to sell America they have solutions. The Democratic platform of "We're not Republicans" worked in 2006 but eventually America will want to know what you're offering. That's why the "vote for Obama because McCain is in the same party as Bush" campaign isn't working.

Monkeyboy wrote:It's not a post. It's a video of McCain sayng he voted with Bush over 90% of the time. The clip has been in several of Obama's ads.

Please provide the context. Obama ads are known for taking quotes from the past and acting like McCain said them yesterday.

There may be people voting against Obama due to racism, but how many? By my estimates Obama will likely get at least 14 million African-American votes, up from Kerry's 9 million. While Bush got about 11% of African-American votes, McCain is projected to get 2%. If you're a Black Republican you wouldn't dream of going Democratic otherwise. And then there's the voter increase of Democrats who never bothered voting for a white guy. I've met several white people who want to vote for the black guy to show America is progressive and post-racial. They have already been Obama voters, but I'm sure he'll pick up some votes there.

The racists may cost Obama Pennsylvania but being black may win him North Carolina or Virginia.

1) In my incredibly biased opinion, McCain would be a better president than Obama. Elections are more about looking forward than looking backward, especially when there is no incumbent running.

2) What the hell is community organizing? Honestly.

3) The religious right is hypocritical. Everyone who is invested in politics is hypocritical.

You didn't have to say your opinion is incredibly biased. FWIW, I find you to be very intellectually honest usually, a rare quality (IMO) for Republicans. I appreciate your direct answers to my questions.

But saying "everyone who is invested in politics is hypocritical" is a stock conservative answer like "they're all just politicians."

I doubt you'd care all that much about the outcome of this election if you thought "they're all just politicians" or "there's not a dime's worth of difference between the Democrats and Republicans." I am painfully aware that the Democrats are imperfect, but I still see major, important differences between the two parties. That's why this election truly matters to me. It's not just "scoreboard" - I am genuinely concerned about the future of this country.

And I just don't see a lot of hypocrisy on my side of the aisle when we are talking the issues that truly move us - education, jobs, healthcare, the environment, etc. I see a lot less hypocrisy in a liberal who will not cross a picket line than in a Republican who defines patriotisim by attaching a yellow ribbon magnet to the back of his or her car.

Based on congress' past two years, why would Democrats deserve to win? They're disliked more than what you are railing against. Imagine that - your worst nightmare is percieved as doing a better job than your chosen alternative while both are in the record books for dismal approval!

BuddyGroom wrote:2) There was any reasonable basis for the Republicans ridiculing Obama's work as a community organizer?

A crystal clear one you chose to ignore - the Obama campaign immediately attacked Palin's credentials. The McCain campaign countered by attacking Obama's. To attack her background should certainly make your own fair game (as if it wasn't already).

Community organizer does not equal saint. At best, it equals "decent person".

The aggressive demand of "community organizer" as pinacle of society only even started as a response to the credible "yeah, well what about you?" response to the attack.

BuddyGroom wrote:3) That a Democratic candidate would be called virtuous, by the religious right or the media, for having a teen daughter "choosing" to take her pregnancy to term?

They certainly would, to the left's outrage, this is a no win for a pro-abortioner.

The hypocrisy is maddening.

They're not former Trotskyites at all. They're Trotskyites who have read Strauss.

Lets face it though, what's important is that they're Traitors and they're Jews.

Again I am not liberal.

I do despise the fact that a major party in America is essentially being run(or driven) by religious morons. The lack of logic and common sense among many on the right is astounding.

I also have become a tad bit frightened about the continued battle the government had against civil liberties after 9/11. Although in this case the damn frenchies in america aren't much better of an alternative.

1) You are aware, aren't you, that Congress's low approval ratings result from polls in which Democrats, Republicans, independents and others are queried? In other words, Congress's low approval ratings are not simply a reflection on the perfomance of congressional Democrats, but of Congress as a whole.

Also, find me a poll, anywhere, that indicates Republicans are even going to break even in House or Senate races this year.

2) Palin has precious few credentials.

3) No, the religious right would not, whether you concede that or not.
