You know how this makes you look, right? I just wanted to make sure that was the effect you were going for.

Well you guys (FlightRisk and Woody) better get a move on. Because Obama is one pay-phone call away from, "...showing these people a world without you (us). A world without rules and controls, borders and boundaries. A world where anything is possible..."

"...and all of this, this bull5hit you (we) thing is so important, you (all y'all) can just kiss all that goodbye!"
I'm afraid you're just too darn loud.

I didn't think it was a great speech, but I wasn't expecting a great speech. My wife was somewhat upset because she thought it was effective. I think it showed the characteristic mean-spiritedness (how do you attack community organizers? Was that just coded racism? Granted, I doubt there's a community organizer alive who's a Republican, but still--you just don't choose to do that unless you've got a pretty big heart) and intellectual vacuity ("drill baby drill"? really?) of the Republicans.

tonight during her speech the words, "healing the world" were loudly booed.

and you are surprised by her scoffing at community organizers?

Something I read today, can't remember where right now, was that unlike Bush in '04, McCain can't win this election simply by mobilizing the base--though he has to do that. Palin, a faith-based selection if ever there was one, obviously excites the hardcore Republicans. She obviously turns off the hardcore Democrats. I don't think she draws the independents and marginal Democrats, whom McCain needs to win, particularly after Obama's pretty good DNC effort to bring those people home.

Also, seems like they can take the gloves off of Biden, and should make for a good debate. And while he may beat her up on some issues, I wouldn't be surprised if she handles her own. This girl is no wallflower.

That is why Biden is going to have a tough time. She is no wallflower at all, but if he treats her like one(which I think he might because he don't want to look like a dickhead and have people saying look at how he treats this lady) he is going to be TKO in the first couple rounds.

I think that was part of the strategy and I kind of like it. He can't treat her like a wallflower, but he might be forced into it due to the voters mindset.

It's a win-win either way.

so to you it's not what they debate about, it's HOW they debate it.

direct hit.

but sadly, that probably is worth more votes in this country.

Direct hit how?

i assumed that your "she's not a wallflower" point was showing that she has an aggresive style that voters werent aware.

she didnt prove (or attempt to prove) any kind of expertise or grasp on issues that might be debated with joe biden... and you didnt appear to care or think that matters to the voter.

and i sadly agreed with you on that last point. but also think its pretty revealing...

And sadly, you make a good point of your own. The point is that it won't be revealing to the people that have a one-track mindset(which makes up a LOT of voters). I just happen to be on the side of McCain-Palin this time. If the goal was to win, McCain certainly made the right choice. We aren't electing Palin as President, we are electing McCain. She seems like a likeable lady and I think likeable is always a good thing.

Judging by the "old" thread, it's obvious two things have happened this evening.

1) The Phils lost a game to $^%%^$ Nationals in heartbreaking fashion.
2) Palin gave one helluva speech.

Glad I missed the former and disappointed I missed the latter.

The heaping pile of drool on Jonathan Martin's blog at the Politico was all I needed.

A savvy GOP consultant asks a timely question after Palin's speech:

Who's most bummed?

Obama?

Biden?

Mitt?

Huck?

Damn that was good.

:-D

She gave a big time speech tonight.

I lived in Lancaster and worked in that community (at a church) for a year. Trust me, Palin would be eaten for dinner doing the work Community Organizers do. It's not work without responsibilities, as she would have you believe. It is hard fucking work. I am extremely pissed at her remarks concerning that.

Fuck you, Sarah Palin.

I'm fairly sure that "Traditional Denominational Christian" is an area that doesn't have a lot of concern for either party.

i will freely admit that i know not a whole lot about what Obama did as a community organizer. can anyone point me to a reasonable website that outlines this? something with some sort of even-handedness. not his memoirs, something report-based.

Peggy Noonan seems less than thrilled that her private conversation was made public and taken out of context.
