They just showed a clip of her doing the snarky "let me explain what being a mayor actually involves" bit. It seemed more like an SNL skit than it did a speech by the potential Vice President. I understand the attack dog role of the VP and how it's all just theater for the delegates, but it all seemed a bit too over the top

That's a good point. He could really win some of the fat vote over if he got even a 60.

Vegas odds say before the election he'll (Obama) free a lightsaber from a block of ice (no hands).
I'm afraid you're just too darn loud.

Whether you like it or not we do the same thing in this thread.

I come in and laugh and at jersey and la without adding much of substance(occasionally dajafi too because i think he may be marxist) and you come in and laugh at pacino and dajafi without really ever going into a discussion that much.

I've been watching CNN and MSNBC, and with the exception of the lesbo on MSNBC, the commentators all seem to think she did a good job, and she may create problems for the Obama campaign.

Also, seems like they can take the gloves off of Biden, and should make for a good debate. And while he may beat her up on some issues, I wouldn't be surprised if she handles her own. This girl is no wallflower.

That is why Biden is going to have a tough time. She is no wallflower at all, but if he treats her like one(which I think he might because he don't want to look like a dickhead and have people saying look at how he treats this lady) he is going to be TKO in the first couple rounds.

I think that was part of the strategy and I kind of like it. He can't treat her like a wallflower, but he might be forced into it due to the voters mindset.

It's a win-win either way.

To me? I am ruiting for the Republican party and I like my candidates. It will make no difference.

To the others that hold an undecided, it could swing things. Namely the strong voiced Hillary dems.

I think Biden will look awful against her, partly because he's Biden and partly because the press, NOT REALIZING THEY ARE WORKING AGAINST THEIR OWN NEFARIOUS ENDS, will play up Palin's inexperience versus that of Biden. When she holds her own (because, honestly, why shouldn't she), she'll appear to come out on top since she was positioned as the underdog.

This will then, of course, have all the earthshaking political consequences as did Bentsen's trouncing of Quayle.

Eh, I dunno.

I didn't think it was a great speech, but I wasn't expecting a great speech. My wife was somewhat upset because she thought it was effective. I think it showed the characteristic mean-spiritedness (how do you attack community organizers? Was that just coded racism? Granted, I doubt there's a community organizer alive who's a Republican, but still--you just don't choose to do that unless you've got a pretty big heart) and intellectual vacuity ("drill baby drill"? really?) of the Republicans. But of course I'm gonna think that. She read from a teleprompter without fucking up. Most successful politicians (and anyone at that level is successful) can do that.

Something I read today, can't remember where right now, was that unlike Bush in '04, McCain can't win this election simply by mobilizing the base--though he has to do that. Palin, a faith-based selection if ever there was one, obviously excites the hardcore Republicans. She obviously turns off the hardcore Democrats. I don't think she draws the independents and marginal Democrats, whom McCain needs to win, particularly after Obama's pretty good DNC effort to bring those people home.

Maybe I'm wrong. I didn't think the electorate would reward Bush for his first-term failures, but the Republicans managed to make that election about Kerry's personality (or their caricature of it) rather than Bush's record. As I've written before and as Trent put it in the last thread (damn that mother filled up fast--I guess you all needed to vent after the shit sandwich fed us all by Mr. Durbin), I just don't want to see the Republicans rewarded for the awfulness of the Bush years. But maybe the usual bloody shirt waving, the garbage and distortions thrown at Obama, and the endless willingness of McCain's admirers in the press to carry that message, will obscure all the policy arguments.

i assumed that your "she's not a wallflower" point was showing that she has an aggresive style that voters werent aware.

she didnt prove (or attempt to prove) any kind of expertise or grasp on issues that might be debated with joe biden... and you didnt appear to care or think that matters to the voter.

and i sadly agreed with you on that last point. but also think its pretty revealing...
