He gave the same green "dependance on foreign oil" speech last year.

That's code for LET US DRILL IN ANWAR, not anything a cruncy type wants.

I'm sure I've written this before... but I'm perfectly happy to have drilling in ANWAR so long as "cruncy type" stuff happens in return. Maybe President Obama or McCain could close that particular deal.

That would be a step back, not a step forward. If we know burning oil kills the atmosphere, why would we want to try to find more? Let's move forward and invest in clean energy.

If they're willing to, say, commit to some huge overall reduction in a fairly short timeframe, let 'em drill now.

My other consideration is that I think the people of Alaska themselves want the drilling (or at least what they get in exchange for the drilling). In that situation I think their wishes should count for something more than they have.

Cause you have to do something in the meantime. For example, say the trend 25 years to get us cut over to Nuclear/Solar/whatever, and it takes 5-10 to get a pipeline up and running- that's 15-20 years you can reduce and contract use of middle east and south american oil.

The first wave of exit poll numbers, including absentees: McCain 34.3 percent, Romney 32.6 percent, Giuliani 15.3 percent, Huckabee 12 percent.

Come on, old man.

It's going to be a long night, it looks like.

Actually, IIRC, Florida's numbers came in pretty quick in 2004. I remember screaming at the TV for about an hour after it was obvious Bush was going to win it handily, and the networks refused to call it. Like long after they had called PA for Kerry, which was twice as close as FL.

I'm leaning Romney right now. Not because I have any specific interest in him, but because I really really don't want McCain to be president.

Interesting. I'm now hearing that absentees made up one third of the total vote (this is from the source who believed the numbers were the first wave) and the absentees preferred Romney, 34 percent to 28 percent. Giuliani is described as "far behind."

I like how much I trust each new bit of information, even though it might be crap.

Edit: Intrade has McCain up to 64%, obviously bumping on this exit poll news.

interesting. i don't know anyone who actually A) knows romney's positions on major issues and B) agrees with them. the guy is a fucking caricature of what it means to be a republican presidential candidate.

on a side note, john kerry needs to be stuffed.
if you don't know what the wrestlers are trying to do--how certain moves and holds are supposed to work and so forth, then it might just look like too sweaty guys rolling around on a mat.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

It's true. I'm about to leave work and indulge in a few more of my favorite crutches...cheap fake mexican food and whiskey. While watching election returns! Man, tonight's looking rosy at the moment (um, except for the Santana thing).

Coming from a guy who can go from supprting Ron Paul's politics to Barak Obama's overnight, count me unimpressed with your ability to dicern what it means to be a candidate for anythng.

Well, Rudy might win a county...

It'll be interesting to see how Giuliani does in Broward and Miami-Dade. McCain will really need to run up some margins there on Romney.
