Alex Rodriguez has earned $356 million in his baseball career (with another 60+ million guaranteed).

The richest person in Wyoming's net worth is $340 million.

Speaking of rich headcases, Hamilton is owed $89M over the next three seasons (ffs). Would you trade Howard for him?

There is 0 possibility that Hamilton is worth $29 million more than Howard over the next 3 seasons.

The Phillies ended up paying just under $21 million for Hernandez and Burnett in 2014. The two righthanders were a combined 14-26 with 4.33 ERA in 57 games.

Among 43 qualifying National League pitchers, Hernandez and Burnett ranked 36th and 41st, respectively, in ERA. Another member of the rotation, Kyle Kendrick, who was paid $7.68 million, ranked 42nd.

But if Howard's money is sunk, isn't it whether Hamilton is worth 3/29 to us? I don't know what he's dealing with mentally or physically, but that's not a high bar to clear nowadays

And it could be a hell of a lot more fun

I rather ride out this awful contract for two years than trade trash for trash with a longer contract.

To be fair, 43 qualifiers means fewer than 3 per team. Hernandez doesn't belong in that conversation, and we got a nice return for him anyway

The other route could be to eat the money and get a change of scenery type young player or a prospect from an AL team. I've seen speculation about Seattle but that could just be the Gillick connection

it's either 2/60 or 3/89. probably a wash for the most part.

Still rather have the one less year though. I don't really see the point in having a slight upgrade when Hamilton won't be worth anything near the 30 million.

and he's only ranked that low because he was bad with the Dodgers which is irrelevant. He had a 3.87 ERA with the Phils. Plus he was only like $4 million since they traded him. It's stupid to lump him in with Burnett. Kendrick was worse than him and they throw him in as an afterthought.

Well Hamilton was worth nearly three wins more than Howard last year, and we should be able to boost that by playing him just in LF and not having him face some/most lefties (if his splits revert to career)

I guess you could say the same thing about Howard at DH, but we can't do that

it'd be appealing because the phils don't have an outfielder near the majors and it would open up a clear spot for franco. i'd rather watch franco/hamilton than howard/dom.

Hamilton is white so from a ticket sales perspective, that would be a win.

Hells yes. Most importantly, in LF I doubt that Hamilton is a liability and Howard of course is. Second, something about the Angels home field (I didn't check the actuall park effects) seems to be keeping his numbers down - hes somewhere around 150-200 OPS poins lower at home vs. on the road in the last couple of years. CBP may help his production.

Finally, he's more likely to end up suspended and not having to be paid, so there's that (j/k (sort of))

And Hamilton's 2017 salary probably won't matter, given all the others coming off of our books by then and the paucity of worthwhile free agents nowadays

Gonna run this idea up the chain

Would the Angels be interested?

I read a few articles yesterday about him angering the fans and to a lesser degree the team toward the end of the year and his contract being "impossible to move." They used a bunch of different guys (including Hamilton) at DH last year, though I assume that will be Pujols territory soon. They save $29M.

Both franchises save some face
