Another way to think about it is to not care if it's inside of a box or outside or if you don't even know where the box is. Rather, care about how good the guy is at improving the club.

Inside the box strategy works splendidly sometimes. So does outside the box. Both also do not work at all at times. This stuff is more complicated than inside or outside boxes.

I never heard of the guy. Quick search around makes it seem like it's a good hire.

All I was saying is that it wasn't surprising to me that he came from the Braves. I think our front office still looks at them as the model organization (as they used to mention fairly often). Doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad hire, just pointing out that I thought it was pretty predictable. Based on how we've performed lately, I'm biased against continuing any of our status quo practices.

they've been pretty spread out when it comes to hires i think. i wouldn't have been able to guess where they were going to hire from. i'm just glad it came from outside of the org.

What does it mean when a "Team Option can vest"? Does that mean when a player's option vests, the TO is voided?

It means there's an option that is activated when they hit a certain number of ABs/innings/whatever and it overrides everything else.

"Team option can vest" = the player has incentives/requirements that need to be met for the extra year(s) to be picked up by the team. For example, CLIFF had to pitch 400 IP this year + next year for his 2016 salary to be picked up, and since it won't, he'll be a FA after next season
