hartnell is below replacement level. umberger is a zero too but fits the system a bit better.

I realize you guys hate Hartnell and Hextall could have traded him for a bag of pucks with a 5m cap hit and you would've said "GREAT WORK CHAIRMAN", but I think this move is a bigger loss that you do.

You do realize he scored 18 goals, 8 power play goals last year, playing on a much less talented line compared to Giroux and Voracek, right? He also killed penalties.

Hartnell had so many junk points just from being on the top line. Hartnell was demoted to the 3rd line during the playoffs.

Were all of Umberger's goal's pure snipes or something? Junk points are points all the same, and I don't seem to remember Umberger being a prodigious offensive talent that was a great creator on offense.

Look, I'm not glorifying Hartnell. He is what he is, and I have no problem in general with the idea of trading him. I just think he's getting a bum rap on here, they traded him for a guy who is definitely a caliber below Hartnell right now, and it's not a "great trade" in the slightest. At best, it's cap relief three years down the line, but they traded a better player for a lesser player right now.

Plenty. Centers like Doug Gilmour and Adam Oates, Ron Francis, Joe Mullen and Nieuwendyk to name a few. Even Brind'Amour got in.

There's also evidence that the hall of fame admits dominant players with careers shortened by injury (Neely/Bossy).

Like every other sport, the NHL (wrongly) puts huge emphasis on championships. It's the only way I can figure Clark Gillies' induction.

On pure offense, Lindros destroys most of the guys in the hall of fame. And that doesn't even consider the other phases of the game that he effected. He should be in. I think the combination of his injuries, no cups, and the fact that he hasn't really been a cheerleader for the nhl/hockey since he retired has something to do with it.

Hopefully it doesn't languish as long as Fred Shero's.

Sam Carchidi @BroadStBull

Hexy says there are 4 candidates as top LW: B.Schenn, Raffl, Umberger and Vinny

not sure i believe it, but that would be less than ideal.

@BroadStBull: B. Schenn will make $2.25M this year, and $2.75M next season.

Berube didn't feel like Hartnell fit in his system. In the Rangers series, he was moved to the 3rd line because he was slowing down the top line and not producing. I trust Hextall in what he is building, and I can see that Umberger is more of a "LA Kings" type forward.

Umberger scored 18 goals last year, Hartnell 20. I bet Umberger can give similar production on this team, especially since they led the league in 20 goal scorers last year.

Hartnell was a really good Flyer for a long time but he was so maddening during games. He's the ultimate I WATCH THE GAMES guy. The penalties, the fall downs, the whiffs, i can see why the GM was trying to trade him. His comments suck though. Wish it wasn't a messy divorce

I think Schenn will be on the top line and Vinny is still probably gone on Friday. Talk about Hartnell not fitting in Berube's system, what does that say about Vinny's future here?

Someone who can play multiple roles. Umberger can play on all lines, he can play C and Wing, he can kill penalties and can be on the PP. That should sound familiar with what LA has done.

umberger isn't a top 6 guy. good he can kill penalties, not sure he sees much time on the pp here.

Flyers don't think Hartnell is either. I prefer a 3rd line guy that can kill penalties and doesn't live in the box.

I had no idea that the Flyers knew that they were allowed to ACQUIRE a pick.

That's another guy the Flyers traded pretty soon after signing a long extension. Wonder if that matters at all down the road

Hextall explained that to Homer. He only had to do it 3 times before he understood.

Maybe this year and even next year, but Hartnell is going to be brutal those last 2 years of that deal.
