The last second round pick of note was Janne Niimmaa in 1992.

Sorry if I don't get all upset they traded a #2 in this years draft and a #3 in 2015. Both picks would have been nought, just by probability using their past picks as a guide.

And when Stolarz and Gottabethere make it to the big show, I'll start to change my tune.

there was a similar discussion last week wrt to the sixers' 2nd round picks. different leagues/different draft and all that, but here's a small mixed list of notable 2nd round picks over the years: chris chelios, john leclair, doug weight, jamie langenbrunner, Elias, Bryz, Cammaleri, Bergeron, Shea Weber, Krejci, PK Subban, but really who gives a shit because they're so few and far in between or something that whats the point of drafting past round 1 right

If you think Homer's going to pull multiple rabbits out of his hat and produce NHL talent in the second and third rounds, then the picks would be a loss.

As it is, they got a cheap, young defensemen who leads the league in blocked shots and can move the puck a bit for those picks. I'll take that any day of the week over the Flyers inability to draft outside of the first round.

i agree, i said it was a good deal. i'm just arguing the value of 2nd round picks here. the skittles mentality bothers me

he's cheap for the rest of the season at least. turned down 4/16 already this year. might be because he didn't want to play for the islanders. might be because he thinks he's worth more.

We'll see. If history is any guide, Homer will give $5M per for five years and a NMC.

When did block shots become a stat that showed someone is good? Doesn't that mean he is pinned in his own zone more than others?

Could mean your forwards turn the puck over in the netural zone and are poor on the back-check. Could mean a lot of things.

It's one of those stats that needs more context. It's not a bad thing that you lead the league in blocked shots, but it doesn't all of a sudden mean you're good. It's like leading the league in runs.

grossmann is in the top 5 too. that's mostly a result of his pairing not being able to get it out of the zone.

With Streit would be my guess. Hope Schenn and Mez get dealt today

would have liked a 2nd, but he was redundant at this point. I feel like that's all we'll get out of the Flyers today, but I've learned to never doubt Homer.
